You’re a natural leader, and great at coordinating teams to meet daily operational needs. Working closely with our Head of Tenancy Services, you’ll lead our team of cooks, cleaners, property maintenance workers and volunteers to ensure operations across maintenance, hospitality and services are efficient, cost-effective, and always focussed on providing residents with the respect and dignity they deserve.

Through your role, you’ll be helping provide safe, stable accomodation for people on low incomes and those at risk of homelessness in Melbourne.

Position Overview:

Our Head of Operations provides expert leadership, culture setting and vision to the Operations team, including cleaners, cooks, and property and maintenance workers, and ensures properties are safe, clean, sustainable, and fit-for-purpose. They work with our Head of Tenancy Services to prioritise positive resident outcomes, resident safety, and speedy provision of housing for incoming residents.

A combined strategic and operational role, the Head of Operations is responsible for developing and implementing systems and policies, managing resources, and ensuring the organisation’s efficient operation across 4 sites. It includes managing our kitchen, volunteer groups, coordinating maintenance works and leading workplace health and safety across the organisation. This role requires strong combined administrative/organisational and people skills, including coordinating rosters for casual cooking and part-time cleaning staff across our properties.

Flexibility and good judgement will be essential to pivot between daily operational tasks, the delivery of longer-term projects and effectively managing unexpected maintenance arising from tenancy-related issues. The ability to navigate unforeseen challenges with grace and professionalism, ensuring the well-being and stability of our residents, is paramount. Adaptability in addressing these issues will be key in maintaining the quality of our housing services and upholding our commitment to supporting individuals in need.

Reporting directly to our CEO, the Head of Operations is an important voice in our Senior Leadership Team. This role is a full-time position, with potential for flexible working arrangements (e.g. some work from home). Onsite work will be located across our properties, currently located in Kew and Hawthorn. The position and its responsibilities will occasionally require working outside regular work hours for which time in lieu will be provided. Salary will be negotiated according to the SCHADS award.
