Our Welthungerhilfe (WHH) Country Office in Liberia has been implementing relief and development projects since 2003 with a focus on Agriculture/Inclusive Food Systems and Nutrition Security, Infrastructure, Health System Strengthening and WASH. As Head of Programmes, you will lead the development of the country programme under the supervision of the Country Director and contribute to its implementation and monitoring in order to maximise the impact. In doing so, you will take into account the overall WHH strategy and quality standards and represent the organization in agreement with the Country Director.
Your responsibilities
Monitor the implementation of programmes and projects in Liberia according to WHH quality standards;
Identify, examine and assess (pre-select) new project ideas on the basis of the intervention strategy, the concept papers and the orientation framework of the Country Programme;
Ensure that feasibility, sustainability and exit strategies of projects are in place and adhered to;
Lead the development of project proposals, concept notes, human interest stories and fact sheets, as well as capacity statements for the Country Office;
Ensure that reporting occurs correctly and in due time (status and financial reports) to Head Office and to donors;
Identify co-financing opportunities and negotiate with donors in agreement with the Country Director and Head Office;
Provide support and training on proposal development and report writing processes to programme staff;
Advise and assist IT and Logistics staff on general data systems management;
Identify potential new project partners in consultation with the Head of Partnership Development & Liaison, and support active collaboration with partner organizations and their capacity building;
Represent Welthungerhilfe vis-à-vis other national and international, governmental, and non-governmental bodies as well as relief and development organisations.
Your profile
A university or college (Master’s) degree in international relations, development studies, social sciences or equivalent relevant to the position;
At least 5 years of professional experience working in the global south on development and relief programming at a similar level;
European/USAID donor experience would be an asset;
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate team members;
Superior time management and organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines;
Strong staff capacity building skills;
Broad intercultural competence and ability to cope in a multinational team;
Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for traveling to Welthungerhilfe’s project countries;
Excellent spoken and written English language skills.
