About the Role
The International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) has set itself a strategic goal that it will, by 2032, enrich the education of 5 million young people per year from more globally representative communities in ways that enable human and planetary flourishing.
The Department of Marketing & Communications plays a key role in supporting the expansion of the IBO”s reach and impact, promoting its thought leadership, programs, services, and community initiatives to contribute to narrowing the learning gaps worldwide.
The Head of Stakeholder Communications leads the team that oversees communications directed towards schools and the wider IB community of stakeholders, including, but not limited to, teachers, administrators, students, and higher education institutions. It also leads our efforts to communicate with school groups, districts and systems, as well as our work with universities and other external education partners.
This requires proactively keeping stakeholders informed across a wide range of relevant topics, including planned updates on operational matters such as assessments and results, as well as changes to what is happening, when, and why.
The role also provides schools with the messaging, tools and resources they need to plan and keep their own communities, including students and parents, informed of IB-related developments and how changes to teaching, learning and assessment will improve the IB educational experience.

- Design and develop strategies for all schools’ communications in collaboration with colleagues operating at a global, regional or sub-regional level who have responsibility for school success.
- Oversee the implementation of communications plans for a portfolio, including updates on changes to teaching, learning and assessment, the impact of strategic initiatives on schools and educators, and communications from the IB in response to external events which impact school communities.
- Establish global standards, guidelines and processes to ensure communications are accurate, timely, culturally appropriate and position the IB as a supportive partner to schools and school leaders.
- Support the Head of External Communications and team in managing crisis communications where schools and school communities are impacted.
- Lead the Stakeholder Communications team, providing mentorship, support and guidance to support team development, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and creativity.
- Ensure communications align with IB brand and tone of voice, while enabling appropriate localisation to reflect market context and audience needs.
- Ensure activities are delivered efficiently and effectively, managing budgets, performance metrics and resources to achieve measurable outcomes.
- Contribute to the creation, collection and curation of powerful, engaging stories and content that nurture vibrant communities and enhance the IB’s reputation for enriching the lives of learners and educators across the globe.
Requirements and Qualifications
About You
- Degree qualified. A Master’s qualification would be an advantage.
- Experience in communications leadership roles within complex organisations, global or multi-regional experience.
- Proven track record in defining and implementing communications strategies, operating models, and transformation initiatives.
- Outstanding communication skills, especially listening
- Able to distil complex information into clear, accessible messaging and language.
- Excellent written and verbal English. French and Spanish would be an advantage.
- Experience in building, inspiring and leading high-performing teams.
- An agile problem solver with an understanding of how to operate in a resource-constrained environment.
- Able to build strong collaborative relationships and drive outcomes
- Commitment to innovation, including the opportunities to enhance communications effectiveness through AI
