Description
Head of the Connectivity Market and Business Intelligence Section in the Future Programmes Division within the Systems, Strategic Programme Lines and Technology Department in the Directorate of Connectivity and Secure Communications (D/CSC).
The Directorate of Connectivity and Secure Communications supports innovation to boost the competitiveness of European industry in the global space market. This involves a wide range of activities, from space-based technology, systems, and products for telecommunications development to the on-Earth application of space-based services, and entails engagement with a wide range of industrial, entrepreneurial, and institutional partners.
Within the Systems, Strategic Programme Lines and Technology Department, the Future Programmes Division is responsible for the management of the ARTES Generic Programme Line Future Preparation; the recommendation of innovative satellite communication concepts and solutions; the elaboration of new disruptive satellite connectivity and secure communications concepts and solutions; the management of technology and system exploration in support of technology work plans and roadmaps; and the technical and programmatic consolidation of new telecommunications system projects in partnership with private and/or public entities.
The Connectivity Market and Business Intelligence Section is responsible for the analysis and business intelligence of markets and businesses relevant to Connectivity and Secure Communications, as well as for defining and providing market guidance for the Directorate’s programme and business development. As part of our dynamic, collaborative, and passionate team, you will shape the future of the space industry by leading market intelligence, financial analysis, and socioeconomic impact assessments to support the activities of the ESA Directorate of Connectivity and Secure Communications.
Duties
Under the direct authority of the Head of the Future Programmes Division, as the Head of the Connectivity Market and Business Intelligence Section, you will be responsible for the analysis and business intelligence of markets and businesses relevant to Connectivity and Secure Communications and for defining and providing market guidance for the Directorate’s programme and business development.
Your tasks and responsibilities will include:
- leading the gathering and analysis of market and business information in the domains of satellite connectivity, telecommunications and related vertical sectors, generating actionable insights and guidance of relevance to the evolution of the Connectivity and Secure Communication programmes;
- leading the analysis of trends, opportunities and threats, and the evolution of the business environment in a European context and as part of the global space economy, as well as developments in the USA, China, India and other relevant regions;
- managing the generation of regular reports on general market evolution and specific reports on aspects of relevance, dedicated to market segments, including the verticalisation of markets and merging of space markets into the wider telecommunications ecosystems;
- supporting the definition by the Directorate of programme and project proposals in aspects relating to market and business environment;
- steering market and business intelligence activity to ensure added value to the Directorate for monitoring of the market and business environment;
- leading the management, maintenance, and evolution of the CSC Market Intelligence Framework;
- leading the generation of socioeconomic impact studies in a harmonised and coordinated manner across the Directorate in support of Connectivity and Secure Communications programme proposals and reporting on the studies to key stakeholders;
- proposing and implementing market-specific preparatory studies for future strategic programme preparation.
You will also be responsible for identifying, assessing, managing and reporting the health and safety risks in your area of responsibility.

A master’s degree in a relevant domain is required for this post.
Additional requirements
Direct experience of working with a commercial satellite telecommunications company in an international environment will be a distinct advantage.
You should, in addition, have:

Recruitment will normally be at the first grade in the band (A2); however, if the candidate selected has little or no experience, the position may be filled at A1 level.
