The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is a global economic forum working with 38 member countries and more than 100 emerging and developing economies to make better policies for better lives. Our mission is to promote policies that will improve the economic and social well-being of people around the world. Together with governments, policy makers and citizens, we work on establishing evidence-based international standards, and finding solutions to a range of social, economic and environmental challenges. From improving economic performance and creating jobs to fostering strong education and fighting international tax evasion, we provide a unique forum and knowledge hub for data and analysis, exchange of experiences, best practice sharing, and advice on public policies and international standard-setting.
The OECD Development Centre (DEV) is working to support developing countries and emerging economies find innovative policy solutions to promote sustainable development, reduce poverty and inequalities, address gender inequality and improve people’s lives. The Centre brings together 54 member countries and facilitates policy dialogue between governments, involving public, private and philanthropic actors. Countries from Africa, Asia and Latin America participate as full members in the Centre, where they interact on an equal footing with OECD members. www.oecd.org/dev.
Within the Centre’s Networks, Partnerships and Gender Division (NPG), the Gender and Development Unit produces data and evidence-based analysis to inform policy makers and development practitioners on the root causes of gender inequality. It focuses on discriminatory social institutions, i.e. formal and informal laws, social norms and practices that exclude women and girls and consequently curtail their empowerment opportunities throughout their life cycle.
