Full Stop Australia is a not-for-profit organisation, operating nationally, but based in Sydney. Our mission is to put a full stop to sexual, domestic, and family violence and to support those who have been impacted by violence and abuse. We operate the NSW Sexual Violence Helpline and a range of specialist Redress and domestic violence counselling services.
Full Stop Australia also offers best-practice training and professional services to support safe and respectful workplaces, and advocate for changes to laws, policies, and practices to better prevent and respond to sexual, domestic, and family violence.
About HeRS:
HeRS is a specialist counselling service that offers up to two years free face-to-face counselling and therapy focusing on healing and processing the impacts of trauma to women who have experienced sexual abuse in childhood. HeRS counselling is offered at various Women’s Health Centres throughout NSW, with all clinical and administrative aspects managed by Full Stop Australia.
About the Role:
The Trauma Specialist Counsellor (HeRS) role is a one day per week in-person counselling position based at Central Coast Women’s Health Centre. This is a well-established position with an existing client base. You would be part of a team of HeRS counsellors and see up to five clients per day for specialist medium to long term counselling.
Full Stop Australia provides regular clinical supervision and professional development. Please note, this is not a casework position. Experience in providing medium to longer term therapeutic counselling will be well-regarded.
The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to work as part of the Full Stop Australia telephone and online counselling team. This is optional and would be additional to the HeRS duties and involve a minimum of two shifts per week.
This is a dynamic and varied position. The team provides crisis and ongoing counselling Australia-wide across various sexual assault, domestic violence and Redress services, as well as providing vicarious trauma support to professionals.
NOTE: The telephone and online counselling duties will require you to work from home for this part of the role. With this hybrid position, you would work one day per week in-person at Central Coast Women’s Health Centre (HeRS duties) and two days per week from home working as part of a larger telephone and online counselling team. The counselling shifts would be non-rotating with a variety of start and finish times available.
About You:

- You will have an awareness of multiple factors which influence individual client responses to both the trauma and the counselling provided.
- You will be confident to make appropriate ethical and clinical judgment in your daily work.
You will also have good working knowledge, skills, and experience in the following areas:
- Incorporating feminist perspectives within counselling frameworks.
- Superior emotional competence when operating in a high demand trauma environment.
- Responsive and competent work management capacity.
- Detailed understanding of the causes and consequences of sexual assault, family, and domestic violence.
- Flexibility and responsiveness to work tasks.
- Good communication skills and the ability to liaise with multiple stakeholders.
- An understanding of, and commitment to the values of Full Stop Australia and the work we do.
Your qualifications and experience will include:
- A minimum four-year Bachelor degree in psychology, social work or counselling.
- Minimum three years (full time equivalent) counselling experience.
- Experience in working with adults who have experienced sexual assault, domestic violence and related trauma in childhood.
- Experience in offering medium to long term counselling to clients with complex presentation.

Salary: This position has been classified as Level 5 under the Social, Community, Home, and Disability Services (SCHADS) Award.
Contract: This is a permanent part-time position one day per week, with potential for additional hours.
