Role Overview and Responsibilities:About The Role:The HSE Manager will be a key member of the leadership team of both the Fairford and Eastleigh Manufacturing facilities, splitting time regularly between both Sites. They will be responsible for managing activities and programmes to ensure that the Site Teams operate within legislative frameworks, implementing and continuously improving best practices whilst fostering site wide HSE proactive cultures of awareness and accountability. The over-arching goal of this role is driving towards zero harm. This role will Line Manage one direct report (HSE and Facilities Co-ordinator)Qualifications, Skills and Attributes:What You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Legal compliance, reporting and the implementation of Company HSE standards across the Fairford and Eastleigh sites.
  • Acting as primary contact in dealing with regulatory agencies, and trains management to understand HSE regulations and standards.
  • Preparing for, hosting and actioning any corrective actions or viable suggestions from internal and external audits and managing a regular schedule of internal inspections.
  • Acting as chair of the Sites’ HSE committee and ensuring that outputs are widely communicated.
  • The health and safety induction of all new team members and the ongoing provision of HSE training and development including the design and delivery an annual HSE plan, emergency procedures and workplace safety.
  • Identifying and assessing risks in our operations and change activities and putting robust, reviewable plans in place to mitigate and eliminate those risks promoting a zero-harm safety culture.
  • Ensuring that safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed and maintaining records of employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required.
  • Track and report leading and lagging HSE indicators, presenting at monthly ‘Town Hall’ and management reviews, with trackable action plans. Provide further data for regional reporting as required by the Site Directors.
  • Incident management and corrective actions for all incidents, accidents and near misses.
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert in areas of HS&E, challenging the businesses to continuously do the right thing and put safety first, displaying the highest ethical standards.
  • Acting as ISO45001 Health & Safety Management Representative and is responsible for maintaining certification.
  • Drive and track sustainability improvements- with longer term specific goals around net zero and zero single use plastic in our businesses.
  • Act as an integral member of the wider UK and global HSE team, contribution to wider projects and opportunities for collaboration, shared learning and efficiency.
  • Support other UK sites and provide emergency cover for colleagues as necessary.
  • Observing and complying with company health & safety and environmental policies and company standard operating procedures.
  • Other projects and reasonable management requests outside this non-exhaustive list!

What We Look For:Someone who is:

  • The holder of a NEBOSH General Certificate, as minimum, or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Able to demonstrate relevant leadership experience in an HSE management role, ideally a minimum 5 years in an HSE management role, with an industrial background.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HSE legislation, guidance and best practice..
  • Able to demonstrate a successful track record of working proactively in a manufacturing environment.
  • The holder of a Nebosh or equivalent professional qualification
  • Professional and confident communicator (written and verbal) at all levels.
  • Positive, enthusiastic with a track record of making significant improvements in their areas of expertise.
  • Data driven with strong analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Strong IT skills. Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook).
  • Can demonstrate their ability to persuade and influence at a senior level and be resolute in upholding safety above all else
