Health Coordinator

The Health Coordinator is responsible for providing medical coverage for our on-site overnight school programs (spring and fall) and our youth group and camp programs (4-5 summer weeks). The Health Coordinator will be responsible for administrative and clinical functions related to the healthcare of our participants, typically providing medical coverage for 7-9 hours on weekdays, with built-in breaks scheduled throughout the day. The Health Coordinator will work closely with and report to the Director of Learning Experiences and Program Coordinator to ensure the health and well-being of all program participants as well as the staff. The Ecology School is an organization that transforms how people think about science, food, the environment, and themselves through joyful, hands-on learning for all ages. Located at River Bend Farm in Saco, Maine, The Ecology School provides a variety of programming including conferences, workshops, camps, and school programs. The Health Coordinator works primarily within our overnight school and camp programs. We are committed to making every program empowering, informative, and fun for our participants all while providing superior care to all of our youth and schools. The Ecology School works to maintain a supportive and positive work environment. *We are looking for a Health Coordinator to join us for this full March-November timeline, but open to discuss shorter one season options, currently prioritizing a March start. Additionally, we are looking for a Health Coordinator willing to live on campus when youth are on site, but open to discussing other options.

Qualifications

• Current license to practice as a RN/LPN/CNP/PA or EMT in the State of Maine or Wilderness First Responder Certificate and current certification in CPR.
• Current Professional Liability Insurance if applicable
• Oral communication skills: a. to develop and maintain rapport with children, classroom teachers, parents and other professionals b. to work closely with Ecology School staff to provide care for all program participants
• Written communication skills to keep records as required by law and communicate with clients and medical professionals.
• Computer literacy including excel and email
• Proven ability to make quality, timely decisions regarding students, campers, and staff

Preferred Experience

• Providing health care in overnight camps and/or schools
• Dispensing daily medications to children. Health care education with children.
• Providing health care in a non-traditional location where independence and flexibility are essential.
• Electronic charting and/or database programs experience.

Compensation

Health Coordinator position is a non-exempt position and weekly salary will be negotiated. Meals are provided during programming. Housing is provided throughout employment.

Responsibilities

• Live on-site in provided housing during overnight programs.
• Prior to the arrival of overnight participants, review health forms of incoming participants and address any concerns as appropriate and necessary.
• When participants arrive, accept medications and determine participant med schedule for the duration of their stay.
• Throughout the program, dispense all regular meds – usually at breakfast, lunch, dinner and bedtime.
• Keep records of medications dispensed, both regular and PRN, and any treatments given.
• Assist in managing food allergies.
• Coordinate any medical problems requiring off-site care.
• Work closely with Ecology School administrators and client school staff (during school programs) regarding participants’ care while they are on site.
• Assess/treat/refer any illness or injury reported by participants/teachers/staff.
• Keep clinic and all first aid kits fully stocked, buying/ordering supplies as needed.
• Serve as medical liaison between schools, parents, and The Ecology School, both pre- and post-visit, as requested.
• Help maintain compliance of health program with federal, state and local laws, regulations and policies.
• Assist in developing policies for health promotion and medical care.
• Assist in orientation of seasonal staff to policies for health promotion and medical care and provide for the health and safety of Ecology School staff as necessary.
