The Role
The Health Manager is responsible for leading the Health Service team of employees and volunteers. While this role manages a team, it is also a very hands on role and you will find yourself working closely with clients. The service works to assist people seeking asylum to address basic health care needs and increase their capacity to engage in the community as they await a decision on their protection claim.
This is a permanent, full-time position at 38 hours per week based in Newtown, Part Time hours and job share arrangements may be considered for the right candidate.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Health Service team, including staff development and performance reviews.
- Coordinate health care of individuals/families in partnership with other ASC services and relevant organisations.
- Implement an integrated health care model that supports a person-centred approach.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with local health districts, primary health networks and other mainstream health providers.
- Liaise and report to the Sydney Local Health District, regarding KPIs, service provision and budget.
- Pro-actively advocate for an increased capacity of mainstream services and systemic change to more effectively address the needs of people seeking asylum using ASC data.
- Work with the ASC Management Team to identify potential partnerships and funding opportunities.
- Work with the Head of Services & Engagement to develop and deliver a comprehensive strategy for the Health Service aligned with ASC’s organisational strategic plan.
Selection Criteria
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:
- Current AHPRA nursing registration and relevant tertiary qualifications in nursing.
- Extensive experience as a Registered Nurse, ideally supporting CALD, refugees and people seeking asylum.
- Significant experience working within a mental health space, in cross cultural environments or with marginalised groups in the community.
- Ability to work independently and with strong skills in time management and organisation.
- Experience of working in partnership with other agencies to meet client needs.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a multidisciplinary setting and with salaried, pro-bono and volunteer staff.
- Strong interpersonal, cross-cultural and written communication skills.
- Skill in using electronic databases and electronic filing systems and utilising this information for reporting, including board reports, and advocacy.
- Experience in management or leadership of a health services team.
