Role Summary:
The Health Policy and Government Relations Manager works directly with the CEO to develop and implement effective health related policies that align with the vision, purpose and strategic goals of Diabetes Victoria.
This role involves researching, analysing and developing policies to support those living with or affected by diabetes along with establishing relationships with government, health agencies, researchers and other partners to advocate for policy outcomes to support the achievement of our strategic goals.
The successful candidate will have a passion for health policy and reform, advocacy and improving lives of those affected by or at risk of diabetes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor healthcare regulations, legislative changes, and community health sector trends to provide strategic insights.
- Research, analyse, and develop policies related to healthcare for individuals living with or affected by diabetes aligned to our strategic goals.
- Develop and implement government relations strategies to promote the adoption of favourable healthcare policies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with government and health policymakers, agencies, researchers and other partners to progress the development and partnerships for the achievement of our strategic ambitions and goals.
- Represent Diabetes Victoria in meetings, conferences, forums, or other events related to government relations or policy development. Coordinate external communications on government matters on behalf of Diabetes Victoria.
- Collaborate across the organisation to communicate government-related developments and their potential impact on the organisation.
- Progress advocacy initiatives that support the organisation’s purpose of reducing the impact of all types of diabetes on individuals, families, communities and health systems across Victoria.
Demonstrated Skills (selection criteria):
- Strong research skills for analysing healthcare regulations, legislative changes, and community health sector trends.
- Proven experience in health policy analysis, advocacy and reform.
- Strong knowledge of the healthcare sector at both a state and national level
- Proven experience in influencing government policy at the state level to achieve measurable health outcomes.
- Strong knowledge of government relations principles and practices within the healthcare sector.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) for effectively engaging with policymakers as well as internal stakeholders.
- Excellent leadership skills with proven ability and track record of collaborating and partnering with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Outstanding stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge and Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Policy/Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- At least 5 years of experience in executive-level positions focusing on health policy or government relations within the healthcare sector.
- Proven track record of successfully influencing government policy to achieve positive health outcomes.
- Knowledge and understanding of diabetes and related healthcare issues would be an advantage.
- This role requires a Victorian Working with Children Clearance, and a cleared police check conducted by Diabetes Victoria.
