Job Title:

Health Safety and Maintenance Officer Myanmar

Role Purpose:

To provide and maintain an appropriate working environment for staff and visitors which is safe, comfortable, attractive and conducive to efficiency, and which makes a positive statement about Britain and the British Council to clients and customers.

Main accountabilities but not limited to the following:

Maintaining the British Council premises and accommodation in line with corporate policies and guidance

The post holder will provide and maintain an appropriate working environment for staff and visitors which is safe, comfortable, attractive and conductive to efficiency, support and cooperate with Resources Department and related work in British Council, Burma.

Responsibility of office facilities suppliers and provide maintenance tasks of office and UK appointed staff accommodations, undertake continual assessments of equipment, and the protocols under which the equipment is used, to ensure that minimal conditions for security are being met

Provide day to day office and maintenance works and maintain access control mechanism and install at the premises.

Provide technical support to the Resources Manager on updating policies, procedures, guidelines and planning for staff safety, operational security and program continuity in Myanmar

Conduct risk assessments to highlight areas for improvement to the health and safety of employees, contractors, visitors, students and other users of Council premises and take appropriate actions to reduce risks

Assist on security assessments for new operational areas, provide input in assessments to consider new programs in new geographic areas

Provide assistant to personnel on security matters in cases of emergency, and in times of an ongoing security incident situation

Work closely with Resources Manager to ensure all incidents and accidents are followed up with an official written report, which is then shared with relevant stakeholders appropriately.

Maintain and update the Health & Safety check list and reports are share to all stakeholders

Liaise on security arrangement with British Embassy and Embassy estate team for daily office maintenance and facility operations/ad hoc problems and upon the day-to-day office operations’ requirements o Checking of safety facility management access to building and office, door locks are working or not

  • Checking Infrastructure security (electricity, lighting and cables are secured, water supply, air-con system etc should be in running at all time) _
  • Update the fire instructions and fire wardens list, check fire equipment, extinguishers, call points & smoke detectors, fire exist way are clear at all time and all fire door close
  • Update the H&S signage in line with British Council branding guidelines
  • All emergency lights are functioning & testing electrical equipment regularly
  • Ensure to keep all cleaning chemical materials are kept properly (not to place in classrooms and all toilet rooms and controlling the usage of cleaning/toilet

Organize Frist Aid Training, check regularly and refill the First Aid Kits, and update the first aiders list upon changes

Ensure to Fumigation, cleaning and maintenance service planning & scheduling, implementation

Put into service and control the on-site and off-site stores and support on the live drills

Provide H&S trainings and giving induction to new joiners

Other tasks as may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time

Role specific knowledge and experience:

  • 1 to 2 years experience on office H&S tasks, Maintenance and Repair tasks
  • Proven ability to deliver tasks to tight deadlines.
  • Good administrative skills and high level of attention to details
  • A good team player and project management skills
  • Proven competency in using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access) Intermediate level on Microsoft Excel

Requirements:

  • The British Council systems and global processes operate in English. Written and verbal proficiency in English is required.
  • Degree level qualification or equivalent experience.

Conditions of Employment: Local Direct Hire
