Job description
Health and Safety Manager needed for long-term freelance opportunity in the Cambridgeshire area!Working on a National Highways project in Cambridgeshire, you will be tasked with working alongside the senior leadership team to help deliver the project.Main Duties & Responsibilities§Ensure that Company and project requirements / KPI’S are being maintained and standards met across the scheme.
§Support the project/OU in the production, review and implementation of specific plans for managing health, safety and wellbeing.
§Manage and support the Project HSW team and provide direction on focus areas.
§Ensure the project is meeting legal HSW compliance as well as expectations from outside bodies i.e., HSE.
§Provide operational and functional management with advice on the prevention of accidents, ill health, and the practical implementation of the company’s SHW policies.
§Lead on compiling and completion of Client led HSW metrics and quarterly reporting.
§Lead when required on entries and closing out of project incidents on OSHENS and HART (client reporting database)
§Participation and undertaking of HSW visits with the Project SLT as well as both Client lead tours.
§Ensuring and supporting the project management team in compliance / execution of client required HSW standards.
§Delivery of safety related tender commitments on the project.
§Involvement in various working groups both internal and also external
§Supporting with the upgrading and production of OWOW processes, procedures and policies for the Highways sector
§Maintain the health and safety competency matrix of the scheme.
§Assist where necessary with tenders and presentations to external bodies.
§Assist in the investigation of accidents, incidents, dangerous occurrences, near misses and other incidents where appropriate. Monitor and coordinate the close out of the above.
§Assist in the preparation and implementation of SHW training courses and ensure that staff with specific SHW responsibilities have received the appropriate training.
§Give advice and guidance (where required) to the project team on HSW related matters.
§Support and drive project HSW initiatives.
§Maintain own level of knowledge and competency in relation to SHW management and responsibilities including appropriate qualification and professional membership.
§Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced dynamic environment.Skills, Experience & Qualifications§Minimum 5 years in HSW Management role within construction.
§CMIOSH Membership or working towards this.
§NEBOSH diploma or NVQ level 5 or above in Occupational Health & Safety if not obtained working towards
§Level 5 academically recognised qualification or above (i.e. diploma /degree/NVQ) relating to health, safety, and wellbeing.
§Experience in the development and implementation of health, safety and wellbeing strategies.
§Able to influence others at various levels from the front-line workforce to Director level, both internally and externally.
§Previous Highways construction environment experience desirable
