Job Description:Health and Safety OfficerDuration of contract: PermanentHours: 37.50We are looking for a Health and Safety Officer to join our team based at our Middlewich Shared User Site. This is a key role to support the site by integrating effectively with the management team onsite ensuring H&S compliance & standards are achieved and maintained, through prominent levels of employee engagement. The successful candidate will play a role in the continuous improvement of the Contract’s Safety Plan that demonstrates a strong safety culture for employees, visitors, and contractors. They will report into and support the H&S Manager.How will you contribute?

  • Manage site Health & Safety in accordance with Wincanton’s Safety Health Environmental Procedures.
  • Ensure the site meets or exceeds the Health & Safety targets expected by Company / Client.
  • Manage and maintain site training records and site training matrix.
  • Co-ordination of all site Health & Safety activities including committees, training, and communications to ensure the site remains compliant.
  • Assist/undertake risk assessments and create SSOWs as required.
  • Using corporate IT systems to produce reports & support the delivery of Safety across the network.
  • Ensure compliance when dealing with accident investigation and RIDDOR reports.
  • Work in line with Company Process and Audit requirements.
  • Support accident investigation and reporting to identify root cause and implementation of corrective action to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure all hazards, near misses, accidents and incidents are recorded correctly and escalated within a timely manner using the company safety database system.
  • Act as necessary without supervision to get things done and organize people and activities effectively, knowing what to measure and how to measure it.
  • Consult with the Health & Safety Manager and site management team.
  • Define problems and devise effective solutions using rigorous logical and analytical tools.
  • Be pro-active in decision making based on analysis, experience, judgement, and intuition.
  • Conduct site inspections to analyse what exists and what needs to be done and arrange for appropriate actions to be taken.
  • Ensure compliance with Regulations by making frequent, unannounced physical inspections and by auditing of written documentation/evidence.
  • Hold Health & Safety meetings and oversee First Aiders on site again acting in accordance with site compliance and current legislation.
  • Manage and drive safety plans across all network sites including advocating a H&S comes first culture.
  • Support and liaise with the Facilities Management/Engineering function onsite.

What will you bring?

  • Currently holds or are working towards NEBOSH qualification essential.
  • Experience of a previous health and safety role within an operational environment. Warehousing operation would be desirable.
  • Experience with Facilities Management preferred.
  • Proactive, effective, and motivated team player who can demonstrate a strong capability of engaging with the workforce and be able to effectively communicate with colleagues and customers, both verbally and in writing
  • Remains calm and works well under pressure in tight deadline situations, displaying exceptional organisational skills.
  • Experience of working to ISO standards preferred.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a keen interest in continually improving our Health, Safety and Environment performance.
  • Self-driven to achieve continual improvement.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Current UK driving license.
  • Experience of Microsoft Office applications and sound IT skills.
