ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
WFP Cameroon is part of the Country Offices in the Regional Bureau for Central and West Africa (RBD) facing multiple humanitarian crises that simultaneously aggravate existing socio-economic vulnerabilities in the country. The fragile security situation in the Northern part of the Country, a protracted refugee operation in the East and crises in the Northwest and Southwest regions has left millions of people vulnerable to food insecurity. WFP provides a key emergency response component of the Humanitarian Response Plan through regular food and sustainable development assistance to part of the food insecure and vulnerable people in the country. With the launch of the second-generation strategic plan, it is imperative to obtain the optimum capacity of staff, partners and beneficiaries given the precarious humanitarian situation and importance of delivering efficient and quick support. This role further described below, will contribute to the World Food Programme’s mission in Cameroon to Saving Lives, Changing Lives.
JOB PURPOSE
Under the leadership of the Head of Unit, the selected candidate will be responsible for the implementation of the WFP Gender Strategy and the Protection Strategy in support of WFP Operations in Cameroon.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Country Director and the functional supervision of the Regional Medical Officer, the Health support Officer will be responsible for the following key duties.
- Contribute to the design and coordination of the delivery of medical services in the country for efficient and effective promotion, prevention and protection of the health and safety of WFP staff following the Wellness Strategy and the Regional Strategic objective.
- Provide technical expertise, advice and solutions that support strategic results, and contribute to the formulation of country strategies and approaches where appropriate.
- Manage, advise, and report on all health matters related to staff including.
- Identifying health hazards for staff and/or dependents (work-related and/or environmental). o Ensuring compliance to all UN medical protocols and recommendations (HIV/AIDS, first-aid training PEP kit country specific protocols including PICT and VCCT).
- Support WFP Country Offices in the management and monitoring of the implementation of the Memoranda of Understanding regarding Third Party medical provider or UN clinic.
- Assistance with follow-up of chronic medical conditions diagnosed and for which treatment has already started etc.
- Assess and liaise with local medical facilities to ascertain proper medical care rendered and establish a referral list and updated list of reasonable and customary costs, whilst monitoring and verifying appropriateness, reasonableness and customary nature of major medical bills / treatment as required.
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Advanced University degree in Public Health, or other field relevant to international development assistance, or First University Degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.
Experience: At least five (5) year or more of postgraduate professional experience in a relevant field of work, preferably in Public Health, with a background and interest in international humanitarian development.
Language: Fluency (level C) in English or French language (written and oral). Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: English/French. (Other WFP working language) would be an asset.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE
Minimum 5 years of progressive professional experience in:
- Healthcare.
- Experience in occupational health and safety and/or travel medicine and/or tropical and infectious disease, and for emergency medicine
- Experience within the UN system, or international NGO would be an asset.
