Seasonal Heavy Equipment Operator

General Description

The position will be based on a remote ranch in southeast Wyoming. The candidate would be part of a crew carrying out stream, pond, and wetland habitat restoration projects on private land. The bulk of the work will involve heavy equipment operation to construct and enhance trout habitat. This work will also require physical labor, such as erosion control material installation and willow stake planting. Depending on a candidate’s experience level, there may also be an opportunity to assist with stream profile surveys, wetland delineation, fish biomass surveys, and other related activities. Since the position is based in a remote location, a food stipend and housing on the ranch will be provided.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in stream restoration and erosion control projects
• Operate heavy equipment including excavator, wheel loader, bulldozer, articulated trucks, skid steer, motor grader
• Basic maintenance of heavy equipment and work vehicles, including greasing, oil changes, filter replacement, etc.
• Assist with data collection and surveying
• Assist farm and ranch operations with irrigation infrastructure
• Keep track of time and report twice monthly

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Requirements

• College degree in natural resources, construction management, or earth sciences, preferred
• Knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials, and supplies used in stream restoration/erosion control work
• Ability to work independently or on a team to complete daily activities according to work schedule
• Ability to lift heavy objects, walk, stand, and bend for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions
• Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely

Compensation

• Selected candidate will be compensated with a competitive seasonal salary, food allowance, and housing.
