Role Purpose
To contribute to the development of the British Councils cultural relations work in English and education through an exciting global initiative that develops the English ability of:

• Young children between the ages of 2 and 5.
• Primary aged 6 to 10 (400+ hours)
• Lower Secondary aged 11 to 14 (400+ hours)
• Upper Secondary aged 15 to 17 (400+ hours)
• Adults General English 18+ (800+ hours)
• Adults IELTS Preparation 18+ (800+ hours)

The Hourly Paid Teacher is responsible for delivering quality teaching and supporting effective learning, for providing engaging learning experiences beyond the classroom, and for supporting the wider aims of the British Council and its cultural relations mission.

Main accountabilities but not limited to the following

Support British Councils global English strategy by:

• Delivering English Language Teaching to the highest standards
• Enhancing the British Council’s reputation as a world authority in English Language Teaching
• Ensuring all core standards around customer service, health and safety and child protection are met.
• Optimising the British Council customer experience.
• Preparing and deliver high quality teaching that motivates and engages young children to have fun and learn on face to face and online context
• Monitoring childrens learning progress and provide feedback to parents.
• Providing overall and primary care to children assigned, ensuring general well-being.
• Contributing to the development, evaluation and improvement of the Learning Centre in order to meet students and customer needs by actively working as a member of the teaching team.
• Completing teaching related administrative tasks to specified standards.
• Actively engaging in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning, and maintain the British Council’s position at the forefront of best ELT practices.
• Supporting local marketing and promotional strategy, and assist the learning centre team in delivering excellent customer service.
• Ensuring that the well-being of every child is safeguarded through the strict application of corporate child-protection measures.
• Ensuring that the environment remains at all times free from health and safety risks that could harm all users and visitors in particular children.

Requirements of the role

This role could cover one or various age groups from the ones stated in the role purpose. The following requirements can be independant from each other, meaning not every single age group experience is mandatory, it’ll depend on the position to fill in, so please make sure to highlight in your CV the specific experience you have teaching English and the groups you have managed.

• Experience with young children: at least 2 years experience working with young children in an institutional setting in at least one of the following age categories: 2-5 years
• At least 2 years experience teaching English as a foreign language to
  • young childrenbetween 6-12years old
  • young children between13-17years old
  • adults
  • IELTS prepatarion course
• Demonstrates a proven ability of lesson preparation, time-planning, managing different technology abilities and classroom management
• A teaching qualification from a Chilean or international university, ideally with a focus on primary education
• A teaching qualification (Licenciatura en educacin or a PGCE or equivalent), ideally with a focus on educacin parvularia, pedagogia infantil, pre-primary or primary. A TEFL qualification equivalent to CELTA level, or a licenciatura de pedagogia de ingls
• High proficiency in English i.e. full mastery of English across all 4 skills equivalent to user (CEFR C1) IELTS Band 7/8 in each of 4 sections of the academic module
• Cambridge CELTA, DELTA, TYLEC, Trinity Diplomaor CertTESOL

Additional information

• The teaching centre is delivering classes on weekdaysTuesdays to Fridays. and on Saturdays (09:15 17:15).
• The specific teaching schedule will be agreed on with the line manager. Additional work may also be required, either to teach own groups, apply placement tests to students, assist other teachers, have the role of floating teacher or to cover classes for another teacher.
• The post holder is expected to work delivering face-to-face classes on our off site premises in Providencia and/orSantiago centre.
• This role may require mornings and/or evenings, and Saturday work.
