BACKGROUND:

The International Rescue Committee is the leading nonsectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. The resettlement office in Salt Lake City provides services to newly arrived refugees.

SCOPE OF WORK:

The case management program includes providing core services to new arrivals, and helping clients work towards self-sufficiency during their first two years in the U.S. in the areas of health, employment, finances, DWS, education, housing, family, and community. Casework interns work closely with the casework supervisors and caseworkers throughout their internship, assisting and learning about all aspects of the casework program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

•New arrival services: lease signing, setting up utilities, home safety & cleaning orientation, etc.

•Assist with new arrivals supplies purchases/inventory and organization, transportation to appointments, home visits

•Assist with home set up and furniture delivery

•Housing searches and applications

•Referral and connection to community services

•Data entry

•Participation in case staffing and staff meetings

•Be able to lift heavy items and stand for a long period of time throughout the day

Minimum Qualifications:

REQUIREMENTS:

•Background in social work OR other related fields

•Experience working with refugees/diverse populations

•Motivated, flexible and ability to work independently, prioritize, and manage time effectively

•Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)

•Demonstrated ability to communicate and work as a team member in a cross-culturalenvironment

•IRC orientation and background check required

•Must have vehicle and insurance. This position will require driving throughout the week

•IRC has a mileage policy to compensate for mileage driven

POSITION LOGISTICS:

•Length of Service: 12+ weeks

•This position is in person

•Compensation: This is an unpaid internship

•Hours: 20-40 hours a week, in 4+ hour blocks

oFirst Cohort: August 19th – December 6th

oSecond Cohort: September 9th – December 20th
