Role Purpose

  • To promote and ensure quality teaching and effective learning of English
  • To support the wider aims of the British Council and its cultural relations mission

Accountabilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups, taking into account individual learning styles.
  • Monitor progress and regularly provide feedback to help manage students performance throughout the course, while actively promoting learner autonomy.
  • Contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials, and related services, to meet students needs by actively working as a member of the teaching team.
  • Complete teaching-related administrative tasks to specified standards.
  • Actively engage in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning and maintain the British Councils position at the forefront of best ELT practice.
  • Support local marketing and promotional strategy and assist the Teaching Centre and/or Partner Schools teams in delivering excellent customer service.
  • Ensure safeguarding, and that guidelines are applied and upheld in line with standards and policy for the following areas: Child protection; equality, diversity, and inclusion; and health and safety.
  • Contribute to the development of lasting, mutually beneficial relationships by enhancing students understanding of contemporary Britain.

Qualifications

Essentials

  • Recognised Certificate in EFL i.e. CELTA/Trinity CertTESOL (or equivalent)
  • Undergraduate/University degree or equivalent

Desirables

  • A DELTA, DipTESOL, or other TEFL Q qualification
  • Relevant Masters Degree, or PGCE.
  • Young learner ELT qualification (e.g. CELTYL, TYLEC)
  • Very Young Learner ELT qualification (e.g. NILE Teaching English is Pre-Primary Education)
  • SEN qualification (e.g. British Council or Blackford)

Work Experience

  • High proficiency in English i.e. full mastery of English across all 4 skills equivalent to user (CEFR C2) IELTS Band 8/9 in each of 4 sections of the academic module.
  • More than 1-year post-certificate (i.e., CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL) experience gained from teaching a variety of age groups and levels, i.e. young learners and adults (we will, however, consider strong applications from candidates who do not meet the two years post-cert requirement)
    • Note a minimum of 1200+ hours of experience should have been gained from teaching two or more of the following age groups:
    • Young learners aged 4 to 7
    • Young learners aged 8 to 12
    • Young learners aged 13 to 17
    • Adults aged 17 +

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary: Pay is per hour worked, starting at 633 THB per taught hour (1 hour class time + 30 mins preparation / admin) for TEFL I qualified Instructors, increasing for TEFL Q qualified Instructors.
  • Working Hours: For staff based at partner schools or universities, working hours will tend to follow institutional timetables (with classes in Thailand usually being scheduled between 7:30am and 3:30pm, Monday to Friday), but there may also be a requirement to carry out after-school work, for example when supporting or delivering an extracurricular offer
  • Work schedule: The post may require working on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00am depending on operational needs.
