HR Team Leader (Medical Sciences Division)

We are seeking an experienced senior HR professional to lead a team of HRBP’s focussing on employee relations issues within the Medical Sciences Division.

The Medical Sciences Division is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for biomedical and clinical research and teaching and is the largest of the four academic divisions within the University. Its researchers work across the full range of biomedical and clinical sciences, from the molecule to large population studies, in Oxford and overseas. Through undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral studies, it offers courses across the spectrum of medical sciences.

Made up of 16 departments comprising a staff body of circa 6000, it has a research budget of over £477m and in 2023 was ranked no.1 in the world for medical research and no 4 for life sciences. Supported by a divisional office which also hosts the Medical Sciences Graduate School, the division has close links with the NHS Foundation Trusts in Oxfordshire and its sites include the John Radcliffe Hospital and the Old Road Campus in Headington as well as the Science Area in central Oxford.

The role reports through University HR and is primarily located in central Oxford although some travel to departments within the above areas may be necessary.  The post holder will manage a team of HRBP’s that work closely with divisional and departmental staff on a wide range of employee relations matters. The post holder will provide support and guidance on strategic HR related projects and support the activities of the divisional office SMT.

You will be expected to build strong, productive working relationships with colleagues, possess an excellent understanding of the division’s key objectives and challenges and to work proactively on issues and projects aimed at assisting managers to work effectively on people related issues.

You must be confident, capable and experienced in supporting complex casework and organisational change, with a keen awareness of the broader implications of HR matters. Professional and proactive, you will be expert at complex stakeholder management with up-to-date knowledge of employment law and HR best practice.
