Duties and Responsibilities
The Office of Human Resources (OHR) is seeking passionate young interns who are innovative doers and thinkers and interested in making a difference for a better world. This position is located in the Central Review Bodies Secretariat, Global Strategy and Policy Division, Office of Human Resources, Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance. The Global Strategy and Policy Division serves as the central strategic authority for all matters pertaining to the management of human resources. It ensures that the Organization has the strategies, policies, frameworks, and tools to attract, develop and retain a talented and diverse global workforce. It nurtures a culture of engagement, leadership, and results. It provides policy, strategic and thought leadership, innovations, and solutions for the end-to-end management of talent: from strategic workforce planning; talent acquisition; organizational and staff development and growth; performance management; including Organization-wide mobility and appropriate duty of care, for all Secretariat staff. The intern will be assigned to the Central Review Bodies Secretariat, Global Strategy and Policy Division, Office of Human Resources, Department for Management, Strategy, Policy, and Compliance (DMSPC) in New York. The intern will be under the supervision of a staff member in the team. Examples of daily tasks include: Provide substantive and administrative support to the Central Review Bodies at Headquarters. Assist in the development of training materials and organizing briefings and training sessions for new CRB members. Provide administrative support in the office as follows. Compile leave plans and attendance recording. Provide administrative support to on-going projects and reform when requested. Assist in collecting data for GA and OIOS reports, and budgetary submissions as required. Assist in any other duties required by the Chief of the CRB. Conducts research on a diverse range of issues using multiple sources; selects relevant material, analyzes information, and presents findings for internal review. Assists in planning and organizing the communication campaign; assists in preparing background documentation, drafting correspondence/communications, reports, and presentations. Participates in meetings, conferences, and seminars and serves as secretary, as necessary (takes notes, draft summary reports, minutes, notes for the files or assessment reports for presentation to the head of the Section), monitors follow-up actions, etc. Reviews project comments/evaluations and progress reports, summarizes findings and lessons learned. Develops visual solutions derived from multiple data sources to enable insight and decision- making at various levels. Performs other activities and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts in desirable. Ability to design surveys and polls is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

This internship is for a minimum 2 and maximum of 6 months and designed to be in-person and full-time (35 hours per week). The duration and modality can be adjusted on request of the successful candidate.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
