The Human Resources Unit in United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia (UNVMC) is seeking two (2) proactive and self-motivated HR interns to join its dynamic team. The ideal candidates will demonstrate initiative, possess strong problem-solving skills, and have a keen interest in leveraging technology to boost client-solving orientation in our HR processes. The prospective interns must have a strong interest in diversity, equity, and inclusion, effective communication and interpersonal skills; capable of working collaboratively in a team environment; ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. This internship will offer a valuable opportunity to gain hands on experience in HR environment and contribute to impactful projects that shape the future of HR practices within the organization. Daily responsibilities will vary and depend on the individual’s background, including but not limited to 1. Assists various actions related to the administration of the work of the human resources unit’s activities, as follows:

  • Compiles and updates leave plans and attendance records.
  • Provides administrative support to relevant teams within HRU and selected candidates on travel arrangements and visa matters.
  • Monitors tracking tables for a variety of human resources activities, e.g., internal correspondence, expiration/renewal of visas, driving licenses, accreditations, iNeed requests on HR matters, etc.
  • Assists in planning and organizing HR communications, preparing background documentation, drafting correspondence/communications, reports, and presentations.
  • Assists with the accreditation process of international personnel arriving to the Mission, as well as renewal of IDs, visas and driving licenses. -Participates in meetings, conferences, and seminars and serves as secretary to take notes, draft summary reports, minutes, notes to the files or assessment reports for the head of the unit);monitors follow-up actions, etc.
  • Organizes files of staff, UN Volunteers and International Observers in SharePoint, as required.
  • Supports the administrative and logistics arrangements in preparation of Competency Based Interviews (CBI) and written assessments.
  • Follows up on new staff arriving at UNVMC to ensure all pre-onboarding tasks have been completed.
  • Provides assistance on human resources queries to ensure consistent and high-quality HR services.
  • Assist in any other duties required by the Chief Human Resources Unit.

Qualifications/special skills

  • To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: (a) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme in human resources management, business or public administration, social sciences, education, or related field. (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent). Interested candidates must be pursuing their degree in areas related to this Job Opening.
  • Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English (both oral and written) and knowledge of Spanish is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
