Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 650 national staff and around 50 international staff in Ukraine and will continue significant scale-up in 2023 to implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead and inspire the Human Resources team (comprise of 14 HR colleagues), overseeing people planning, performance, well-being, and development initiatives.
  • Provide technical support, advice, and capacity building to enhance the team’s skills and capabilities.
  • Advise and assist managers on various HR-related issues, ensuring smooth operations across the organization.

Recruitment, Development, and People Planning:

  • Drive recruitment and selection activities, ensuring compliance with the recruitment process and promoting new staff retention strategies.
  • Facilitate a seamless onboarding process for new employees and maintain consistency in position titles and grades across all locations.
  • Support staff development initiatives, recommending and approving Learning & Development opportunities for employees through our Learning Catalogue.

Performance, Well-being, and Compensation & Benefits:

  • Manage performance counseling, employee grievances, and disciplinary issues, focusing on building manager competency and maintaining proper documentation.
  • Lead the performance management process and act as a mediator in disciplinary procedures, ensuring fairness and compliance with legal regulations.
  • Drive people well-being initiatives, fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment.
  • Define and review the salary structure in collaboration with the Senior Management team, coordinating the annual compensation review process and adjustments.

Human Resources Policies and Support:

  • Maintain and update Staff Human Resources Handbooks,
  • Ensure all policies are current and aligned with organizational values. Develop any other HR policies according to the organizational needs.
  • Proactively drive continuous process improvement in HR practices, enhancing the quality and efficiency of our services.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have at least 5 years’ experience in HR field, of which at least 2 years in a senior Human Resources management role within an NGO and at least 3 years’ experience with people management. Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required

  • Proven leadership skills and a competence in people management
  • Demonstrated understanding and working knowledge/experience of Human Resources Management principles, concepts & processes
  • Excellent skills in handling and advising on complex people management issues
  • Experience in developing Human Resources strategies and policies, and driving implementation
  • Experience using an online system for recruitments
  • Full professional proficiency in English

Desirable

  • Experience working in Ukraine and/or in a large organizations going through a change

We offer

Contract length: 12 months with possibility of extension

Band: F management

Designation of Duty Station: Kyiv, Ukraine

Start date: as soon as possible
