United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is the leading UN entity on human rights. OHCHR represents the world’s commitment to the promotion and protection of the full range of human rights and freedoms set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
OHCHR’s office in Mexico works to ensure that institutions, authorities, victims, civil society organisations and the United Nations Country Team have adequate information, understanding, and skills to identify human rights concerns and to develop measures to address them effectively. OHCHR-Mexico also works to ensure that civil society, human rights victims, rights holders, communities and human rights defenders have increased awareness of human rights standards and mechanisms.
As Human Rights Monitoring Associate you support Grave Human Rights Violations Unit of OHCHR as follows:
· Contribute to research and collect information pertaining to human rights issues through monitoring human rights situations;
· Assist in the analysis of information regarding substantive matters in the field of human rights, and recommend actions to be taken;
· Assist in drafting inputs for reports, communications for UN reports;
· Provide inputs for meetings with relevant authorities to assist in strengthening their capacity for protection and promotion of human rights;
· Participate in interviews with human rights victims, relevant authorities and civil society organizations as part of the documentation of cases;
· Etc.
Part of the Talent programme “Swiss Youth at the United Nations / World Bank“, this position is sponsored by the Peace and Human Rights Division (PHRD). An International UN Youth Volunteer contract ensures that travel, relocation and UN health insurance costs are covered. Additionally, a monthly living allowance is paid. First round of interviews carried out by cinfo: between 23 September and 02 October 2025
Final selection: will be made by the host organisation based on cinfo’s recommendation and a second interview with them. Selected candidates will be informed around November.
Onboarding and training: The onboarding process will start after the selection. Selected candidates will have to attend mandatory predeparture training in Biel in January or February.
Entry on duty: Departure is possible after the mandatory training. The final departure date will be discussed after the selection and depends on several factors.
