United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is the leading UN entity on human rights. OHCHR represents the world’s commitment to the promotion and protection of the full range of human rights and freedoms set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Mexico works to ensure that institutions, authorities, victims, civil society organisations and the United Nations Country Team have adequate information, understanding, and skills to identify human rights concerns and to develop measures to address them effectively. OHCHR-Mexico also works to ensure that civil society, human rights victims, rights holders, communities and human rights defenders have increased awareness of human rights standards and mechanisms.
The Grave Human Rights Violations Unit personally gives legal orientation to victims, particularly human rights defenders who search for their loved ones who have disappeared. The Grave Human Rights Unit also participates in field missions to follow up on cases of alleged human rights abuses, meeting with victims, family members of victims, local NGOs and government authorities.
As Human Rights Monitoring Associate, you support OHCHR as follows:
Part of the Talent programme “Swiss Youth at the United Nations / World Bank“, this position is sponsored by the Peace and Human Rights Division (PHRD). An International UN Youth Volunteer contract ensures that travel, relocation and UN health insurance costs are covered. Additionally, a monthly living allowance is paid. First round of interviews carried out by cinfo: between 29 April and 07 May 2024
Final selection: will be made by the host organisation based on cinfo’s recommendation and an interview with them. Selected candidates will be informed around mid-June.
Onboarding and training: The onboarding process will start after the selection. Selected candidates will have to attend mandatory predeparture training in Biel at the beginning of August.
Entry on duty: Departure is possible after the training, i.e. from around August 8, 2024. The final departure date will be discussed after the selection and depends on several factors.
