Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located within the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Iran (FFM Iran), pursuant to Human Rights Council Resolution A/HRC/RES/55/19, based in Geneva. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of the Fact-Finding Mission on Iran.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Human Rights Officer (Legal Analyst/Reporting) will be responsible for the following duties: – Undertakes legal reviews and analyses information collected and advises Secretariat staff on addressing gaps and identifying lines of inquiry; prepares analytical legal documents as required; – Coordinates the drafting of the Fact-Finding Mission’s final reports, and acts as the lead drafter and reviewer; – Assists in drawing analytical conclusions; proposes the structure of reports and visualisation of the Fact-Finding Mission’s final findings and legal conclusions; assists in developing actionable and gender-sensitive recommendations; – Prepares legal briefings, summaries of information gathered and legal analytical documents as required; – Coordinates closely with the Gender Adviser to ensure gender perspectives are integrated throughout the investigation, and during analysis and report drafting, including on the gendered impact of the violations; – Ensures that information collected is properly documented, in accordance with standard OHCHR methodology; – Performs other duties as required.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in law, political science or international relations, or another discipline related to human rights is required. A first-level university degree in the mentioned fields of studies, in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience maybe accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible work experience in human rights, or international criminal law is required. A minimum of two years of experience in the analysis and drafting of public human rights reports is required. Experience in providing legal analysis under international human rights law and international criminal law is desirable. Relevant experience working for the United Nations, or a similar institution is desirable. Relevant working experience in or on the Middle East is desirable.
Languages
French and English are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Fluency in Persian is desirable.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
Special Notice
This position is temporarily available until 31 December 2024, and is subject to extension of the mandate and/or the availability of funds. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment. While this temporary assignment may provide the successful applicant with an opportunity to gain new work experience, the selection for this position is for a limited period and has no bearing on the future incumbency of the post. Subject to the funding source of the position, the eligibility for this temporary job opening may be limited to candidates based at the duty station. This temporary job opening may be limited to “internal candidates,” who have been recruited through a competitive examination administered according to staff rule 4.16 or staff selection process including the review of a central review body established according to staff rule 4.15. Staff members of the United Nations common system organizations who will reach the mandatory age of separation or retirement within the duration of the current temporary need period are not eligible to apply.
