BEFORE APPLYING, make sure you meet the following requirements:

• Able to commit to a minimum of 20 hours per week for the entire internship period: January 29 to April 26, 2024.

• Eligible to work in the United States.

• Must have a valid U.S Social Security Number.

• A recent graduate from an undergraduate program (within 2 years) or current graduate program student.

• Adhere to World Vision Internationals Christian Statement of Faith.

• Willingness to use own electronic devices for internship purposes, and disposition to let WVI install endpoint security software on those devices.

DETAILS

• Stipend: All US-based interns are paid a monthly stipend of $650

• Hours: Full-time and part-time opportunities are available (20-40 hours/week)

• Internship Location: Candidates able to perform this role in person from the World Vision office in New York are preferred. However, candidateslocated in one of the states in the U.S. whereWVI is registered as an employer (Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia (Washington D.C.), Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington) will be considered.

• Appropriate Fields of Study/Majors: International Development, International Affairs/Politics, Law or related field.

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION

The Humanitarian Policy and Advocacy Team exists to support WVs humanitarian responses. The team works towards advocating and influencing policies for effective, efficient, timely, well-funded, and coordinated humanitarian response to crises to support children. The objectives of the team are grounded in our organizational strategy (Our Promise), supporting the delivery of strategic imperatives to reach the most vulnerable and to collaborate and advocate for broader impact which we do by building and working through alliances.

We directly support WVs humanitarian responses, lead WVs global humanitarian policy work, and position WV in Geneva, New York, and other global spaces building from the bottom up and recognizing that the most critical humanitarian work happens in responses.

The Opportunity:

As a Humanitarian Policy Advocacy and External Engagement Intern, you will have the opportunity to:

• Work on tasks related to humanitarian and disaster management issues within the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

• Gain practical and educational experience while contributing to World Visions advocacy objectives within the New York space.

• Support the Senior Policy Advisor for Humanitarian Affairs. The portfolio covers emergencies in Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America, along with the themes of humanitarian access and children in armed conflict.

The interns responsibilities will include:

• Keep up to date with the UNSC schedule to be aware of any upcoming meetings or votes affecting humanitarian efforts.

• Remain aware of developments within the portfolio mentioned above.

• Support drafting of briefings, policy papers, or position papers both internal and external

• Support internal World Vision Advocacy Response Group (ARG) discussions and meetings, both taking note of relative updates from country and support offices and assisting the Senior Policy Advisor in reporting on updates from the UNSC.

• Support engagement in external meetings and communications with peer NGOs or with UN agencies.

• You have prepared papers and reports in English.

• You have experience in academic research in humanitarian contexts.
