The Ocean Conservation Trust is a charity focussed on habitat restoration and behaviour change,
that owns and runs the National Marine Aquarium, the UK’s largest aquarium. Our vision is of a
world supporting a healthy ocean to sustain all life. We have been connecting people with the
ocean for over 20 years.
Our aquarium in Plymouth includes three large displays of 500,000 litres, 650,000 litres and
2.5 million litres, themed on the native marine environment, the Great Barrier Reef, and the
Caribbean respectively.
An opportunity has arisen for the right candidate to join our husbandry team as a Husbandry
Registrar. This vacancy is ideal for someone who has experience of zoo or public aquarium
operations and Zoo Licensing regulations, an interest in marine wildlife and conservation and
excellent communication and administration skills.
The successful candidate will be based at the National Marine Aquarium and their role will
involve multiple administration duties, including but not limited to:
- Liaising directly with the veterinary support team on a daily basis to ensure health
enquiries are made, updated and actioned. - Coordinate and develop our online record system (OERCA).
- Inventories of food, drugs and other consumables.
- Placing of orders and management of the department Purchase Order system.
- Dealing with husbandry general enquiries.
- Attend, minute and contribute to the weekly husbandry meeting.
- Coordinate internship and placement student recruitment with senior husbandry members.
You will have the following skills and experience:
ESSENTIAL
- Interest and enthusiasm for/knowledge of marine wildlife and conservation.
- Experience of zoo or public aquarium operations and Zoo Licensing regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organisation and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritise and use own initiative.
- Good attention to detail.
DESIRABLE
- Previous experience of working in an administrative role.
- Experience of the OERCA animal management software.
This is a permanent role working 30 hours per week. Due to the nature of our business all
applicants must be available to work weekends, public and bank holidays and throughout the
school holidays.
Salary: £24,128 pro rata based on a FTE 37.5 hours per week.
