ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
Facilities Services is responsible for maintaining a safe, comfortable campus environment for students, faculty, staff and guests.
POSITION SUMMARY:
HVAC Mechanic I is responsible for the repairs and maintenance of commercial HVAC systems and provides support services to other trades. A variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance duties are performed to carry out the essential functions of this position, and technicians should have experience and/or training in commercial HVAC systems. The technician may also be responsible for escorting and supervising contractor activities occurring on campus as requested by the supervisor. Begin and complete the Level One HVAC Mechanic curriculum and demonstrate competency therein. This position assists senior workers with building HVAC systems. Assists with and performs a variety of basic tasks related to HVAC maintenance. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform basic functions of the job. Primary job functions require exercising little independent judgment. This position’s primary responsibilities include, installing, repairing, replacing, and preventively maintaining heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) equipment; refrigeration equipment; and cold rooms. Repairing or replacing valves, piping, dampers, grills, motors, belts, pullies, bearings, and simple controls including pneumatic/electronics and other associated components. Familiar in the processes and safety measures in various skilled craft area(s). Familiar with concepts, practices, and processes in the HVAC Mechanical craft.

Shift hours to be assigned: Monday – Friday 7:00AM – 3:30PM tendersglobal.net Shift hours may be flexible (may require occasional non-shift days/hours and holidays).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be proficient in reading, writing and communicating in English. Must have the ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs. Requires a valid Florida driver’s license.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with installation, preventative maintenance, repair, or replacement of valves, piping, dampers, grills, motors, belts, pullies, bearings, and simple controls (including pneumatic/electronic and other associated components).
Assist with installation, preventative maintenance, repair, and replacement of compressors, vacuum pumps, chilled & hot water pumps, and other equipment.
Inspect and repair ductwork. Basic Electrical troubleshooting for HVAC and related equipment. Check and replace air filters and belts on air handlers. Clean and maintain drain pans. Clean and maintain coils by taking magnehelic readings. Change UV bulbs. Replace Window Units.
Utilize specialized equipment such as Meggers, Amp meters, pressure washers, manometer, anemometer, and magnehelic gauges. Use computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for work orders.
Read and maintain, where necessary, appropriate system blueprints and schematics.  Maintains appropriate logs and records of systems operations to help create Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Maintain records, initiate purchases of materials and parts used for repairs
Operate hand tools, power tools, man-lifts, etc. to complete jobs. Drive USF vehicles, clean & maintain shop, and clean & maintain personal equipment and assigned tools/equipment. Perform hurricane preparation duties such as clearing roof drains, drain grates, filling and deploying sandbags.
Provide support services to other trades (as required) for timely and efficient repair of buildings and/or equipment.
Responsible for possessing an operational two-way radio during entire work shift. Monitor all Maintenance Services communications and respond as required to communications addressed to them.
Perform all other maintenance duties as assigned by a Supervisor that are required to meet the needs of the university campus community.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent. One (1) year of appropriate commercial HVAC experience in the field or related area; appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Valid Florida Class E operator (driver) license
