Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) has been working in Iraq for more than 20 years. IRW-Iraq was amongst the few aid agencies those were on the ground since 2003. Islamic Relief Worldwide Iraq is implementing several projects in the sector of livelihoods, WASH, Education, and Protection.

 

JOB PURPOSE:

The Hygiene Promoter is responsible for assessing the targeted schools and implementing the hygiene promotion campaign. This involves conducting field visits to relevant government directorates, such as the Directorate of Education (DoE), as well as engaging with surrounding communities and schools. The Hygiene Promoter will also carry out hygiene promotion activities, which include delivering hygiene awareness sessions, organizing sports hygiene education sessions, and leading planting activities to promote a clean and healthy environment.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Promote, monitor, survey, and assess the target school in the assigned area and group level through daily field and school visits;
  • Conduct surveys and visits in order to coordinate with the DoE and the targeted schools to identify participants to the Hygiene Promotion sessions, and Conduct hygiene promotion sessions in the schools;
  • Conduct school visiting to inform and motivate pupil to improve their hygiene living conditions.
  • Identify the most appropriate hygienic message regarding the target population, and working on it;
  • Evaluate the necessary material needed for a session/activity;
  • Participate in the identification of beneficiaries for the WASH activities (solid waste management, water supply rehabilitation, distribution of hygiene kits etc.) if requested;
  • Promote Hygiene to children to help them acquire safer hygiene behaviors;
  • Participate in hygiene campaign, doing shows in schools and at community level;
  • Monitor the rehabilitation of WASH facilities and the provision of hygiene, sport kits as well as the planting of the green spaces in the targeted schools;
  • Act as a link between the organization and the beneficiaries;
  • Ensure all work is carried out as per the community needs and project standards;
  • Forging relationships with key people in the community, stakeholders and community leaders to ensure proper implementation;
  • Regular meetings with project manager and other team member to communicate new technical topics;
  • Develop trust, tolerance and co-operation among community members;
  • Provide regular updates from the field to the Project Manager;
  • Report any incidences related to protection children in schools and vulnerable groups to the management;
  • Report security incidences in the field in a timely manner to the management;
  • Perform other relevant tasks as assigned by Project Manager.

 PERSON SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL:

A) EDUCATION/TRAINING

Required:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree Or Diploma in Social Sciences, Development studies or related field

 

B) EXPERIENCE

  • Fresh graduate or up to one year of experience in a similar role, with reporting experience preferred.
  • Fluent in Arabic and English
  • Experience in community-level data collection
  • Proficient in Windows Excel and quantitative analysis

 

DESIRABLE:

Professional Qualifications

  • Basic computer skills for data entry
  • Good reporting and Excel skills
