Internships

The IAEA accepts a limited number of interns each year. The internships are awarded to persons studying towards a university degree or who have recently received a degree (see Internship web pages for further details).

The purpose of the programme is:

To provide interns with the opportunity to gain practical work experience in line with their studies or interests, and expose them to the work of the IAEA and the United Nations as a whole;

To benefit the IAEA”s programmes through the assistance of qualified students specialized in various professional fields.

The duration of an internship is normally not less than three months and not more than one year.

Organizational Setting

The Director General”s Office (DGO) provides leadership and coordination for all IAEA activities at the executive level for meeting Member States” needs, and achieving a one-house approach and a results-based management.

Main Purpose

The IAEA Ethics function, which reports directly to the Director General was established to assist the Director General in ensuring that all staff observe and perform their functions consistent with the highest standards of integrity by fostering a culture of ethics, transparency and accountability. The Chief of Ethics is responsible for the IAEA Ethics function.

To assist the Chief of Ethics with activities of the Ethics function, including developing awareness raising materials and conducting research and drafting related to enhancements to the IAEA ethics framework.

Functions / Key Results Expected

  • Assist the Chief of Ethics with research and drafting on issues relating to the Standards of Conduct for the International Civil Service, including case law research/analysis.
  • Researching UN system policies and practices relevant to the work of the Ethics Function, to help identify trends and best practices;
  • Assist with the management and enhancement of the Ethics intranet site, including development of digital outreach materials on a range of topics;
  • Support in development of innovative awareness-raising and training materials and initiatives.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • University degree or studies in Law. Advanced university studies (masters” level) in Law an asset.
  • Knowledge of International Administrative Law.

Applicant Eligibility

  • Candidates must be a minimum of 20 years of age and have completed at least three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a first degree.
  • Candidates may apply up to one year after the completion of a bachelor”s, master”s or doctorate degree.
  • Candidates must not have previously participated in the IAEA”s internship programme.
  • Good written and spoken English essential; fluency in any other IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish or Russian) an asset.
  • Candidates must attach two signed letters of recommendation to their application.
