Main Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the Section Head, MAFA, the Laboratory Technician (Security System and Components) performs routine operation, maintenance, configuration management of security equipment at NSDTC. In addition, he/she provides training and technical support to applied research and development projects and training courses offered to Nuclear Security Training and Demonstration (NSTDC) trainees.
Functions / Key Results Expected
• Routine operation, maintenance, configuration management and testing of security equipment at NSTDC;
• Prepare, and ensure in good working order, all equipment and training kits required for various nuclear security training courses involving security equipment.
• Perform testing and related programming of various features of the security equipment in order to ensure proper functioning, and to diagnose malfunctions;
• Perform troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing systems and/or equipment.
• Keep NMS Unit Head informed of new products and developments and request orders for replacement parts when needed.
• Draft and prepare procurement specifications, evaluate bids, develop and implement acceptance test procedures for security equipment upgrades.
• Assist in the training of fellows and other trainees from Member States on operation, maintenance and testing of security equipment.
The incumbent may perform his/her work in areas involving exposure to radioactive materials. Therefore, as an Occupationally Exposed Worker, he/she must be medically cleared by VIC Medical Service and is subject to an appropriate radiation and health monitoring programme, in accordance with the IAEA’s Radiation Safety Regulations.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills
Completed secondary education.
Minimum of six years of relevant working experience in the field of security systems.
Extensive hands-on experience and knowledge of installation, operation, maintenance, commissioning and testing of security systems.
Experience related to security system integration, relevant standards, and developing, refining, and revising specifications and test procedures for security equipment.
Good knowledge of electronics and latest security technologies.
Ability to comply and carefully follow laboratory procedures and safety requirements.
Experience in developing and delivering lectures and presentations regarding security systems.
Experience in teaching and practical training in the field of nuclear security equipment is an asset.
Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
Administrative skills test to IAEA standard may be part of the process.
