Job Summary

Support and contribute to the overall Accounting and General Ledger processes, including: preparation and support of accurate and timely month-end closes; monthly compilation of financial statements and the related internal reporting and fluctuation analyses; maintenance of key internal controls; identification of process improvement opportunities and implementation of accounting best practices. In addition, this role will contribute to ICANN’s U.S. tax reporting processes (IRS Form 990) and the annual financial statement audit. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP accounting as well as transactional experience with processing and reviewing Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable subledger activity.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Ensure that all accounting transactions are properly recorded in ICANN’s internal and external financial statements in accordance with GAAP for Nonprofit Organizations.
  • Support and contribute to the day-to-day activities of the General Ledger and month end closing process, including preparing accounting reconciliations and financial statement trend analyses are completed accurately and timely.
  • Support compliance deliverables such as the annual Form 990 tax return filing, U.S. Audit, corporate insurance renewals, and other global audit and tax fillings.
  • Partner with the Financial Planning and Analysis and Procurement teams to support complete and accurate reporting of all accounting transactions.
  • Interact regularly with department managers and staff as it relates to accounting matters.
  • Identify and communicate issues to the Accounting Manager as necessary, and provide direction and guidance to less experienced staff on appropriate accounting processes as needed.
  • Participate in any other Accounting, Finance and ad hoc projects as required.
  • Review accounting work prepared by junior staff, including bank reconciliations, journal entries, amortization schedules, and other compliance-related supporting schedules.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Strong hands-on experience managing a month end close process in a centralized accounting environment which includes consolidations and analytical consideration of multiple ledgers.
  • Experience with ERP financial systems required, and with Oracle Fusion a plus.
  • Experience in financial statement compilation, including consolidations and fluctuation analysis.
  • Experience with supporting the IRS Form 990 filing process and all related schedules and compliance filing requirements is preferred.
  • Experience supporting the annual independent financial statement audit process, including experience with creating, reviewing and updating process narratives as well as timely delivery of all prepared-by-client (PBC) schedules is required.
  • Ability to evaluate and consider updates to accounting processes with a focus on documentation of procedures, internal controls and process improvements.
  • Highly motivated and positive demeanor to help ICANN move forward on its goals with an emphasis on cross-departmental cooperation.
  • Ability to work independently and to demonstrate good personal judgment and exercise a commitment to ethical conduct required.
  • Ability to shift priorities as needed, while managing multiple tasks and project deliverables.
  • Desire to help build new processes and seek out and apply best practices and use business process thinking to improve accounting functions.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, colleagues, and business associates.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to collaborate across global teams and different time zones.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or a relevant field of study from an accredited institution is required.
  • A CPA license as well as auditing and/or public accounting experience is highly desirable.
  • Minimum five (5) years of overall accounting experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years of direct, hands-on experience in managing the month end closing process.
  • Experience coordinating external audits and tax work is strongly desired.

Language

  • Fluency, both written and spoken, in English is required.
