Context

The ICT Unit plays a critical role in enabling secure, reliable, and efficient communication and technology services across all operational areas. As part of the Information and Communication Technology team, ICT Assistants provide frontline support to ensure that digital infrastructure, network systems, and communication platforms are functioning optimally. This support is essential for maintaining business continuity, safeguarding mission-critical assets, and facilitating collaboration across departments and field offices. In the context of humanitarian and development operations, particularly in high-demand environments like Syria, this UNV Assignment is instrumental in deploying and maintaining robust connectivity solutions, supporting secure communications, and ensuring that staff have access to the tools and systems needed to carry out their work effectively.

In addition to duty station specific vaccine requirements, appointments are subject to confirmation of fully vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the appointment. It does not apply to UN Volunteers who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their contracts.

Key Responsibilities

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of [ICT Specialist] or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV [ICT Assistant] will be supporting in:

1- Conference & meeting support
· Providing ICT support during meetings.
· Arranging technical setups for meetings and workshops On and Off-site.
· Organizing and managing collaborative meetings and interviews through various platforms.

2- Technical support.
· Providing ongoing technical support and troubleshooting assistance to country office and Zone offices staff for UNICEF systems and applications.
· Printer maintenance and tracking.
· Installation and management of equipment required for connectivity and telecom.
· Maintain Office and server rooms network wiring.

3- Inventory and Stock management
· Maintaining an up-to-date ICT hardware inventory and managing the stock of ICT equipment
· SIM card management
· Safeguarding and disposing of Telecom assets properly.
· Maintaining Office Consumables Stock.
· PSB: Maintaining items list.

4- Routine maintenance
· Performing periodic preventive maintenance, assessment, and evaluation to ensure that the IT systems and the Network infrastructure and internet connectivity are sustainable, sufficient, and match the latest UNICEF ICT standards and determined life cycle for equipment and solutions.
· Maintenance of network equipment.
· Laptop software and applications maintenance
· Coordinate mobile Maintenance

5- IT service reporting
· Documentation of solutions, and SLA reporting.

6- Perform any additional tasks necessary to support ICT operations and overall performance.

Required Skills and Experience

· At least 3 years of professional work experience, at the national and/or international level, in Information Technology, or other relevant field; experience with Power Apps is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization;
· Other desired/mandatory required technical knowledge
· Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
· Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
· Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
· Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
· Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
· Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
· Demonstrate Sound security awareness.

Living Conditions

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in Damascus. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.
