About Office/Institute
- The UNU Campus Computing Centre (C3) serves as the technology arm of the United Nations University, providing responsive, user-focused and cost-effective information and communications technology (ICT) solutions that assist UNU and its institutes in successfully achieving their respective missions. In fulfilling this responsibility, C3 is committed to guiding the University’s strategic technology direction and overseeing the coordination and support of ICT infrastructure, resources, and services in alignment with the University’s mission and goals.
- C3 are seeking a talented Technical Writer to join their team and play a key role in developing clear, concise, and well-structured governance and regulatory documents in English, related to ICT. This includes areas such as ICT security, data governance, and other relevant regulations within the ICT domain.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of Chief of ICT, the incumbent will be responsible for the following tasks:
Policy Development and Documentation:
- Collaborate with subject matter experts and stakeholders across the UNU ICT network to develop standardized ICT policies.
- Draft and revise governance and regulatory documents, including policies, procedures, standards, guidelines, and white papers.
- Participate in working groups to identify and prioritize policies for development.
- Ensure all documents are accurate, consistent, and meet all regulatory and legal requirements.
Process and Workflow Documentation
- Work with the UNU ICT network to map and document internal processes for internal consumption.
- Develop and maintain templates and style guides for consistent document creation.
- Coordinate with the C3 team to ensure outputs meet requirements.
- Collaborate with the C3 team and other stakeholders to solicit feedback, identify user needs, and evaluate satisfaction and effectiveness of ICT documents.
User Guides and Communication
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and easy-to-understand documents for various audiences (technical and non-technical).
- Produce user guides related to ICT policies, workflows, services, and applications.
- Communicate and collaborate with various stakeholders (internal and external to C3) to understand their ICT needs and expectations.
- Provide feedback and suggestions for improving the quality and usability of ICT documents and resources.
Research and Compliance
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of relevant ICT regulations and industry best practices.
- Conduct research and stay up to date on emerging trends in ICT governance and regulations.
- Review general standards and guidelines for compliance and risk management for ICT projects and initiatives.
- Produce materials providing advice and guidance for ICT staff and stakeholders on ICT governance and regulatory issues and best practices.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Key Performance Indicators
- Timely and quality completion of assigned drafting tasks
- Quality and level of engagement in policy development process
Qualifications
Education and certification
- High School Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Required skills and experience
- Minimum 4 years with High School Diploma or 2 years with Bachelor’s degree of relevant working experience in ICT policy drafting and development emphasizing on drafting governance and regulatory documents in the ICT domain (e.g. ICT security and data governance).
- Proven ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear and concise language for various audiences.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Strong understanding of grammar, punctuation, and style guides
- Experience with document management systems and content management systems a plus.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with subject matter experts.
- Strong literacy with ICT and critical thinking skills.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
- Other desirable skills: Initiative, ability to work with limited supervision, familiarity with UN system.
Language Requirements:
- Fluency in English is required
- Knowledge of another UN official working language is an asset.
