Posting Context Statement IdahoSTARS is a statewide program funded by the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare-Block Grant. It is designed to assist parents by offering child care referrals and information about quality child care settings, as well as to assist child care providers with a variety of professional development opportunities and resources.
The Center on Disabilities and Human Development (CDHD) is an independent unit within the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences. The CDHD improves the lives of people with disabilities and their families by educating an interdisciplinary workforce, providing training and technical assistance within communities, conducting research, providing direct services, and disseminating evidence-based information.
Position Overview This position promotes healthy and safe child care by assisting with program policy development and implementation of quality health, safety, and nutrition practices in early care and education settings. This position provides coaching, training, and resources to child care directors and providers, families, and regional and statewide partners.

Position Qualifications

Required Experience
  • Working on an interdisciplinary team
  • Developing and implementing health and safety policies
  • Conducting adult workshops and/or providing training (small and large groups)
  • Working in child and community health
Required Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare related field; four years experience in fields such as pediatric nurses, community health nurses, physician assistants or health educators may substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree
Required Other
  • Ability to travel between locations during the business day for meetings and support of program activities in assigned regional areas
  • Nonstandard business hours as needed
Additional Preferred Education and training:

  • Licensed health professional
  • Endorsement in Early Childhood Mental Health
  • Specialized training in child care health consulting

Knowledge of:

  • Early child care and education
  • Health and safety standards in child care
  • Injury prevention for children
  • Oral health of children
  • Inclusion of children with special health care needs in child care settings
  • Safe medication administration
  • Safe sleep practices and policies
  • Immunization schedules for children
  • Developmental screening tools and procedures for use

Ability to:

  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Interact and communicate with others effectively
  • Use correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar in composing written statements
  • Manage a variety of projects simultaneously
  • Portray a professional demeanor
  • Understand written and spoken English and Spanish languages
