IDB Invest – IDB Invest Digital Transformation Consultant – Advisory Services Division (ADV/DSP)
Location:
IDB Invest, a member of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group, is a multilateral organization, committed to the development of the private sector of Latin America and the Caribbean by financing loans, equity investments, and guarantees. In addition, IDB Invest partners with clients to provide advisory and training services.
The Digital and Technological Transformation team is looking for a professional with an academic background in business and technology and a working experience of a minimum of 3 years, with a good understanding of the qualitative challenges and benefits that digital transformation can drive as a propelling force to build competitive advantages for private sector businesses. She/he will report to the Head of Digital Transformation and will work closely with Climate Change; Gender, Diversity, and Inclusion; Sustainable Businesses and MSME and Public Private Partnerships teams.
The Advisory Service division through its Digital Transformation unit is built by design to create differentiating digital capabilities in IDB Invest’s strategic cross-cutting themes, and the professional selected is expected to be one driving force to conceptualize and define innovative technological solutions at market level, as well as at client and at transactional level.
The candidate shall have an analytical mindset, ability to improve knowledge transfer to maximize development impact, good communication skills (oral and written), have a proactive and self-starter attitude and enthusiasm to contribute to accelerate technology supported sustainability solutions. International working experience in the Latin America and Caribbean region helping leading companies drive digital transformation programs, will be an asset.
About this position:
The Advisory Services Division sits within the Strategy and Development Department. Our Advisory Services Division works closely with the Investment Segments divisions to enhance our value proposition beyond financing, through advisory services and technical assistance. The Digital Transformation unit is a dynamic team dedicated to unlocking the potential of digital solutions to tackle unique challenges and create new opportunities that can be adopted across all sectors. Our overarching mission is to fuel economic development, foster social inclusion and promote climate sustainability across Latin America and the Caribbean by empowering the private sector.
We work at market, client, and project-level to accelerate and align efforts towards building and actively contributing to an inclusive and sustainable recovery in our region. The selected candidate will work under the supervision of the Head of Digital Transformation team.
What you’ll do:
As Digital Transformation Contractual, you will manage the design and implementation of advisory services in the region with a focus on how to enhance our client’s productivity, improve operational efficiency, address knowledge gaps that can be solved through training on reskilling and upskilling, engage with innovative start-up ecosystems, and introduce new ways of working enabled by digital tools.
Main functions and responsibilities include:
(1) Drive continuous digital innovation within Digital Transformation Advisory Team:
- Identify new innovative opportunities for IDB Invest clients related to digital solutions, thinking outside of the box to design and deliver client-centric proposals supported by new technologies, such as: real-time analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, business process automation, or cybersecurity, among others.
- Manage multiple priorities and develop business cases for new digital transformation use cases, working together with other internal teams to understand their needs, creating buy-in narratives for solution adoption, and building trusted collaborative relationships.
- Develop and apply ideation and delivery methodologies with emphasis on design thinking and agile, respectively.
- Identify improvement opportunities in the product and services portfolio over time, based on industry trends and client feedback.
- Support the organization and facilitation of user training activities and participate in internal and external events representing IDB Invest’s Advisory team.
(2) Execution of IDB Invest’s Technical Assistances and market studies, supported by third party providers
- Lead and manage the execution of Technical Assistance projects and market research, implement quick wins on own account and manage vendors to achieve objectives within schedule and budget, when required.
- Ensure that Digital Transformation unit strategies remain constantly committed to IDB Invest’s core mission, encompassing climate change, sustainability, social inclusion, and innovation.
- Leverage your understanding of the LAC region’s distinct challenges and opportunities to formulate precise digital transformation advisory projects, creating tangible value and results in competitive advantages for our clients.
- Hands-on experience in collaborating with startups or innovation ecosystems, to support IDB Invest’s clients to engage and create a comprehensive set of digital solutions that address the needs of the client will be considered a plus.
What you’ll need:
- Education: You hold a bachelor’s degree in computer science, business administration, STEM, sustainability, international relations or economics and/or other relevant fields related to digital transformation. An advanced degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) will be desirable.
- Experience: At least 2 years relevant professional experience related to the key responsibilities of the position and experience working within a team of specialists. You have a solid understanding of how technology-driven business models are disrupting incumbents across different economic sectors and are familiar with open innovation and corporate entrepreneurship in LAC. Experience and skills in client relationships, as well as management consulting and technology strategy will be highly valued.
- Languages: Oral and written proficiency in English and Spanish required; knowledge of Portuguese and/or French is a plus.

- The candidate for this position will require to show on a daily basis the following skills: team spirit, proactivity, intellectual curiosity, adaptability, genuine interest on how technology can accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and strong desire to be part of the IDB Invest Advisory Services Division.
- Communication: Ability to write and speak clearly and concisely, to write clear and precise analytical documents and to adapt communication style to different audiences; demonstrated ability to contribute to multidisciplinary and multicultural project teams; experience independently negotiating retainer agreements and managing external contractuals. Also, must have the ability to convey facts and ideas clearly and in an organized manner in writing and verbally. Listens to others’ points of view and is able to produce summarized reports.
- Networking: Ability to proactively cultivate networks with people across a variety of functions and locations within and outside the Bank, working effectively and cooperatively with all stakeholders.
- Teamwork: Demonstrated ability to take initiative to assist others; share knowledge and information; express disagreements tactfully and work toward win/win solutions.
- Initiative and Adaptability: Ability to act independently and resourcefully in responding to work demands, adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity and change.
Requirements:
- Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
Type of contract and duration:
- Type of contract: Consultant Full-Time.
- Length of contract: 36 months
- Location: any IDB Group country office. Final location will depend on candidate’s nationality.
