About this position
We are looking for a consultant to join IDB Lab’s team in Jamaica. As an IDB Lab consultant, your main function will be to identify new projects in Jamaica. This include receiving, screening and monitoring a pipeline of new opportunities, by conducting initial review and discussions with potential partners, preparing project pitches and supporting research and design for operations that receive eligibility for financing. In addition, you will monitor the existing portfolio of IDB Lab projects in execution and liaise with the respective project team leaders and execution partners to resolve any queries or challenges arising. Finally, you will assist the IDB Lab team in communication, promotion and visibility activities as needed.
You will work in the IDB’s Jamaica Country Office as part of the Discovery Unit of IDB Lab. The Discovery Unit of IDB Lab originates and manages the portfolio of non-reimbursable technical cooperation (TC) projects, and manages the operational relationship with IDB, ensuring an adequate distribution of TC across countries and strategic areas. This team is responsible for identification, design and oversight of innovative approaches to solve development problems in accordance with IDB Lab’s key areas of focus.
What you’ll do:
Origination and Project Identification
- Engage with potential clients and a range of partners to identify new and highly innovative operations with a focus on results and impact. Special attention should be given to projects that reflect programmatic priorities of the IDB Group in Jamaica.
- Conduct research and assess potential clients to support development of project pitches for financing.
- Conduct the technical and financial analysis of new projects and prepare key documents and presentations to facilitate project approval.
- Contribute to the ideation and design of innovative projects. Operational Supervision
- Supervise and guide the implementation of the portfolio of projects in execution. As such, provide the necessary technical advice and guidance so the projects achieve their objectives.
- Oversee the fiduciary compliance, disbursements and reporting for projects to meet IDB Lab requirements.
- Supervise the generation and dissemination of practical knowledge as well as document lessons learned and best practices to position projects for greater scale and impact.
Coordination with IDB Group and Country Office
- Assist the IDB’s Jamaica Country Office and IDB Lab in communications and engagement efforts.
- Ensure that knowledge and lessons from projects are incorporated into new operations to promote continuous learning and innovation.
- Develop a strong understanding of IDB Lab instruments, processes, focus areas and Corporate Results as well as key policies and requirements of IDB Group.
- Identify opportunities for collaboration and co-creation with IDB and IDB Invest.
What you’ll need
- Education: Master’s degree or equivalent in Economics, Finance, Business, Development Studies or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
- Experience: At least five (5) years of relevant professional experience, as project coordinator, investment officer, or officer responsible for project design and technical supervision during implementation, results monitoring, and management of projects and programs aimed at developing the private sector and financed by bilateral or multilateral development institutions, nongovernmental organizations, public entities, or financial institutions

Requirements:
- Citizenship: You are either a citizen of Jamaica or a citizen of one of our 48-member countries with residency or legal permit to work in Jamaica.
- Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
Type of contract and duration:
- Type of contract: National Consultant Full-Time.
- Length of contract: 19 months, with the possibility of extension by mutual agreement for up to additional 17 months (total cumulative maximum of 36 months). .
- Work Location: On site.
