IFC’s CSAR1 Department is seeking an intern as part of our Global Internship Program (GIP). The Global Internship Program (GIP) offers highly motivated individuals an opportunity to be exposed to the mission and work of IFC and the broader World Bank Group and become part of the largest private sector development institution in the world. The program encourages individuals to bring new perspectives and innovative ideas to IFC’s work, while improving skills in a diverse and highly stimulating environment. Moreover, the Global Internship Program provides a unique opportunity to exchange ideas and network with international professionals dedicated to ending extreme poverty and boosting prosperity in the developing world.

Duties and Accountabilities:

(1) Support India-Africa Cooperation Strategy

S/he will report to the Country Manager, India and the main tasks of the Intern will include the following:

Support Country Management Unit in business development and furthering identified India-Africa investment and advisory opportunities aligned with IFC’s local and global strategies. India is home to multiple large-scale corporates with the technical, financial, and strategic capacities and priorities to expand globally, especially in IFC’s countries of operation across the Emerging Markets and Developing Countries in Africa. In parallel, India offers large and growing market in mutually beneficial trade sectors like manufacturing, agriculture, and pharmaceuticals, access to advanced technology and skilled labor, all with significant potential to contribute to economic development in Africa.

• Conduct research to understand recent India-Africa trade and business partnerships to inform and identify more India-Africa projects with strong development impact in priority sectors for IFC
• Serve as a focal point to liaise with key stakeholders to identify potential opportunities for IFC support . Map out potential pools of donor and/or concessional finance available for cross-continent transactions, focused on India & Africa.
• Update database of existing IFC clients and co-investors looking to enter African markets in key sectors identified.
• With support with senior management, drive discussions for the India-Africa Working Group, ensuring continuity of work stream and regular follow ups. Identify and/or co-create participation opportunities for IFC in external events that could be leveraged for furthering our India-Africa Cooperation agenda.
• Liaise with respective industry focal points and stakeholders to support internal and external due diligence for IFC’s mobilization efforts under India-Africa investment platform.
• Develop strategic pitch deck to emphasize cross-continent India-Africa investments from Asia to Africa to help Indian investors leverage IFC’s strong local market knowledge to enter a new market or expand abroad.

(2)Research and Knowledge Management

S/he will report directly to the Country Manager, India and the main tasks of the Intern will include the following:

• Work with industry leads, senior management and sector economists to build corporate group client engagement strategies for key target corporates in India.
• Based on the WBG CPF for India, develop background documentation for programmatic approach to contribute to impact measurement and provide strategic inputs to IFC’s impact assessment framework.
• Work with sector/industry leads and the Country Management Unit at IFC in India to conceptualize, draft and finalize case studies for a wide variety of stakeholders, such the governments, potential private sector clients, informed business audiences to aid IFC operations in India.
• Consolidate, analyze, update and coherently document IFC engagements in key strategic sectors such as transmission, warehousing, energy, green housing, and micro, small & medium enterprises, as well as in key Indian states, to clearly articulate impact in creating markets and fulfilling development gaps within India.
• Research and collaborate with sectoral experts across IFC industries to prepare a document repository on new and emerging areas, such as Green Hydrogen, Blended Finance, sub-national financing, electric vehicles and others.
• Collate knowledge from internal World Bank Group documents to produce analytical insights on IFC’s program in the country, focusing on key thematic areas and cross-sectional themes, such as gender equality, inclusion and climate.
• Work with country-level, project-level operations and financial data to highlight insights and convey impact narrative and results.
• Create a supporting case studies on IFC’s key sectors of operations in India using quantitative and qualitative data
• Assist the India CMU in other projects

Selection Criteria

• Candidates must be currently enrolled in a Master’s degree level program
• Preferred field of study: International Development, Business Administration, Finance, or Economics.
• Minimum of 2 years of previous work experience
• Be a self-starter, proactive individual, adept at collaborative work.
• Excellent writing skills, with prior experience in formal writing and drafting reports.
• Candidates are encouraged to share writing samples and/or links to published pieces.
• Ability to work in India (citizenship or OCI card)
