We are seeking an Immigration Adviser to join the Visa and Immigration team within Registry and Academic Affairs. This specialist role is essential to the University’s ability to provide a professional immigration advisory service to applicants, students and the wider University community, while at the same time maintaining UKVI immigration compliance to protect and maintain the University’s student sponsor licence.

This role requires knowledge of the student immigration rules to provide accurate and appropriate immigration advice.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a good understanding of UKVI policy and legislation alongside relevant University regulations and apply that to student casework. The role requires problem-solving skills to manage and resolve complex cases.

The role also involves communicating high volumes of complex information to students and colleagues across the University. The role holder must have excellent attention to detail and strong written and verbal communication skills to enable them convey information clearly. Immigration Advisers are responsible for making decisions on casework, including assessing the most appropriate way of responding to issues, with support from the Head of Visa and Immigration. This will include making or influencing decisions on when it is, or is not, appropriate for the University to act as a student’s immigration sponsor. Immigration Advisers in the Visa and Immigration team have specific areas of compliance responsibility in addition to advice, case work and enquiry management duties. The role holder will have specific responsibility for supporting the development and dissemination of UKVI compliance policies and guidance across the institution through a programme of training and outreach activity. Experience of developing and delivering training will therefore be beneficial. We are looking for individuals who have experience in immigration compliance and/or a good understanding of university regulations having previously worked in the higher education sector.
