Duties
Grant or deny applications and petitions for immigration benefits and determine appropriate level of adjudicative review and update databases with appropriate information and decisions.
Research and interpret sources including immigration laws and regulations, operating instructions, legislative history, precedent decisions, state and local laws, and international treaties to determine adjudicative decision.
Gather information using a variety of methods including document review, electronic systems checks, interviews, etc. to make adjudicative decisions on immigration benefit applications/petitions.
Process electronic or paper applications and petitions for immigration benefits using available electronic systems to verify numerous established data points.
Provide direct assistance to personnel/officials of other Federal agencies in identifying individuals who pose a threat to national/public security.
Provide applicant/petitioner/beneficiary support including liaison with internal and external stakeholders, problem resolution, and in-person services.
Conduct security checks in accordance with all applicable DHS/USCIS laws and policies.
Qualifications
GS-5: Performing office automation duties using word processing to edit and reformat correspondence and reports;
Creating and maintaining spreadsheets; Responding to inquiries by phone and/or in writing; Reviewing and verifying accuracy and completeness of submitted documents for benefits. OR You may substitute successful completion of 4 years above high school for the experience required at the GS-05 grade level.
GS-6: You qualify at this level if you have 1 year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-5 level, performing the following: Performing office automation duties requiring different approaches and methods from one assignment to another; Reviewing and screening applications for benefits; Providing routine information and assistance on applications for benefits; Maintaining subject matter files, technical instructions, and/or operating procedures.
GS-7: You qualify at this level if you have 1 year of specialized experience, at the GS-7 level, performing the following: Analyzing and evaluating cases where expedited screening for immigration benefits is necessary; Determining whether requests for immigration benefits sought are valid; Reviewing and screening applications for immigration benefits to ensure completeness of supporting documentation; Preparing a variety of reports utilizing a number of software applications and retrieving information from other software systems (e.g., databases, spreadsheets, graphics)
