Company presentation

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development was founded in 1991 when communism was crumbling in Europe and ex-Soviet countries needed support to nurture a new private sector and democracy. Today we invest to help build market economies from central Europe to central Asia and the southern and eastern Mediterranean. We are now the largest single investor in our region. Owned by 69 countries and two intergovernmental institutions, we provide project financing for banks, industries and businesses. We also work with publicly owned companies to support privatisation, restructure state-owned firms and improve municipal services. Wherever we are active, we promote policies that bolster the business climate.

Are you a recent graduate excited to embark on your career? Do you want to make a positive difference in the world? Are you excited to work with talented individuals from across the globe on life-changing investment projects?

If you’re nodding along to these questions and you think you have the skills and interest to help us develop and implement innovative solutions to international development challenges, then read on to see if the Impact Analyst role in our International Professionals Programme is for you.

Who are we? “It’s Banking, but not as you know it”

The EBRD is a multilateral institution with a mandate to support transition impact in its countries of operations.

The Impact team is in charge of the methodology which assesses the impact of the Bank’s operations and its implementation. It also manages results, is in charge of the Bank’s impact report and is the Bank’s thought leader in the field of economic development and impact through research, evaluation and outreach.

What are we offering? “Not your average 9-5”

Our 24-month International Professionals Programme (IPP) is an immersive, focused and supportive programme for successful graduates to unleash their potential and kick-start a career at the EBRD.

The IPP is made up of assignments designed to provide meaningful, hands on experience, and the opportunity to develop your skills alongside top subject matter experts in a range of fields. There will be rotations through departments relevant to Impact, as well as an assignment to one of our Resident Offices, deepening your understanding of and engagement with the very core of the EBRD’s mission and impact in our countries of operations.

During the programme you will undertake a tailored learning and development plan which encompasses in-depth technical training as well as personal and business skills development. You will be supported by your line manager, a buddy, and a dedicated Programme Manager.

What does the role of an Impact Analyst look like?

As an Impact Analyst, you will work on a variety of tasks. You will be embedded in the project cycle, supporting our team of economists in conducting the impact assessment of the Bank’s operations across different sectors. In addition, you will support the Bank’s thought leadership agenda, being involved in the production and dissemination of knowledge pieces relevant to Impact. This may include strategic pieces, evaluations that use quasi-experimental techniques, and the organisation of workshops on themes relevant to Impact. Impact reporting is another important task of the team, and you will be involved in the design and preparation of the Bank’s Impact report which is published every year at the annual general meeting. You will have the opportunity to work with a team of talented economists, whilst expanding your collaboration with experts across different areas of the Bank, including the teams working on climate, governance and inclusion issues.

What are we looking for? “We embrace difference, to make a difference”

In addition to initiative and a sense of adventure, we are also looking for diverse candidates who have the following:

  • A recent degree in economics;
  • Broad understanding of development economics issues;
  • Qualitative and quantitative research skills and experience: ability to develop and manage spreadsheets and use of statistical software;
  • Ability to draft text for internal process documents, websites and to fulfil narrative reporting requirements;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English;
  • A keen interest in international development, private sector development, and field-based practical work;
  • An eagerness to work in any of our countries of operations during the IP Programme and in your future career with the Bank;
  • Results-driven with an open and flexible attitude towards change;
  • A minimum of six months’ and maximum of twelve months’ experience of working, travelling, or volunteering;
