The Government of Lesotho (GoL) is a signatory to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UN-CRC). As part of the state obligations signatory to the Convention, the state party must submit periodic reports on the implementation status of the country on the treaty and give a picture on the protection of rights of children.
How can you make a difference?
- Develop an Inception report including work plan, methodology for the exercise and time frame, etc. to be approved by the Ministry of Gender, Youth and Social Development (MOGYSD).
- Collate, consolidate, and analyze all the data that will be gathered by MOGYSD and stakeholders who have been implementing interventions of children.
- Hold validation workshops for inputs from child protection implementers.
- Incorporate in the draft report relevant feedback coming out of the stakeholders’ workshop.
- Finalise and submit to MOGYSD the final CRC report.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
- An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher)
Disciplines:
- Law, Criminology, Social Work/Policy, International Development Studies, or any related field.
Languages:
- Fluency in English is required.
Knowledge/Expertise/Skills required:
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience related to children’s rights and international legal frameworks such as the UNCRC
- Experience working with the UNCRC reporting mechanisms will be a strong advantage.
- Strong understanding of the international, regional and Lesotho’s legislation and policies pertaining to child protection and children’s rights.
- Extensive experience in designing, implementation, and monitoring justice for children programmes at national and sub-national levels
- Experience in effectively facilitating the collaborative work of a wide range of stakeholders, including government and development partners.
- Familiarity with UNICEF’s mandate and goals is an advantage.
- Have no criminal record in abuse of children.
- Excellent analytical and report writing skills including interactive and interpersonal communication skills.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
