The Peacekeeping Section of the Inspection and Evaluation Division of the United Nations Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS-IED) seeks applications from interested candidates to join as individual contractor to conduct a triennial review of implementation of recommendations from the 2021 OIOS thematic evaluation of political affairs in peacekeeping missions (A/76/697).

Recent university graduates with two to five years of experience in evaluation, research, monitoring & evaluation, and/or analytical writing with strong quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills would be ideal candidates for this consultancy. More experienced candidates are also encouraged to apply.

The individual contractor will work under the overall supervision of the Chief of the Peacekeeping Evaluation Section.

Requirements

Education: University degree (Master’s degree or bachelor’s degree with additional experience) in political science, international affairs, social sciences, law, business administration or a related field.

Experience

  • Experience in research, monitoring & evaluation, and analytical writing is required;
  • Strong qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis skills (including proficiency in NVivo and Excel) is required.
  • Fluency in English (reading, writing and speaking) is required
  • Prior experience in evaluation within the UN system is desirable;
  • Experience in reviewing and systematically analyzing secondary materials is desirable.

Terms of contract:

Consultants and individual contractors are engaged under the provisions of Administrative Instruction ST/AI/2013/4. Interested candidates are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the provisions of this Administrative Instruction (available online), which sets out contractual terms and conditions, legal status and fee ranges.

  • Restrictions on reemployment as a staff member: As per ST/AI/2013/4, consultants and individual contractors are not eligible to apply for or be appointed to any position in the Professional and higher categories and for positions at the FS-6 and FS-7 levels in the Field Service category within six months of the end of their assignment under the Staff Rules and Regulations of the United Nations.

  • This contract is based in New York City and the recruitment is on a local basis.

    Duration: The contract is expected to start immediately and will be initially for three months with possibility of extension upon satisfactory performance.
