Duties and Responsibilities
Organizational Setting UN-Habitat, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. It is the focal point for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. Background The 12th World Urban Forum, the premier global conference on sustainable urbanization, is taking place in Cairo, Egypt. In an effort to build momentum for the WUF, UN Habitat will be launching an initiative known as Cairo Urban Week, an opportunity for citizens and visitors to engage with the city. Cairo Urban Week will include a number of key events that provide unique city experiences. The work of Cairo Urban Week will be divided into the following categories: Thematic exhibitions and events, legacy initiatives, and experiences. Tentative Activities: Themes- Events will revolve around two key themes: the historical city and the economic city. The themes will include panel discussions and innovative interactive exhibitions. Experiences- Urban Hackathon, an opportunity for citizens to problem solve around challenges in their city with pro bono services from local design firms. Urban Cinema Week, partnership with local cinemas to display iconic movies featuring Cairo. Legacy Initiatives- Cairo Urban Week and World Urban Forum seek to undertake a small number of initiatives that can leave a lasting impact on the city. Primary focus will be on promoting accessibility and public space. Reporting line The individual Contractor will be working under the direct supervision of the Urban Development Programme Manager. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Provide effective support to development of Cairo Urban Week: • Support the development of CUW’s activities and initiatives to deliver a successful program; • Support in coordinating among partners including but not limited to: government, UN-HABITAT headquarters, national and international consultants; • Assist in development of work plan and provide support for monitoring budget and activities; • Support to budget and expenditure management; • Prepare and draft TORs, contracts and MoUs for programme partners and consultants and follow up on submission of progress reports and agreed deliverables; • Support on project reporting and documentation; • Prepare for and organize meetings and facilitate data collection and power point presentations; • Support in identifying local partners as necessary for various tasks; • Conduct necessary research for literature reviews and for problem solving as needed; • Review technical documents and support feedback provision and communication to implementing partners; • Prepare agenda and necessary presentations for Cairo Urban Week Advisory Committee, and set up meetings accordingly; • Follow up regularly with partners to ensure timely delivery of requested tasks. 2. Provide support to content development of CUW, partnerships, and media campaigns: • Scan relevant business opportunities and explore potential partnerships to amplify impact of Cairo Urban Week; • Research global best practices and methodologies for possible activities under various themes; • Support in leading on social media messaging and content creation with partners; • Support in leading on developing briefs for Urban Hackathon and outreach to ensure participation from community; • Provide logistical support for organizing scoping missions where necessary. 3. Provide operational, administrative, and financial support to the programme: • Maintaining proper filing, both soft and hard versions, of programme document • Arrange all travel logistical and operational requirements including travel requests and authorizations and payments. • Drafting formal correspondence, in both Arabic and English; • Submit and follow up on payment requests; • Complete all necessary documentations for recruitment of staff and consultants; • Support in financial reporting to donors with ensuring delivery rate is maintained.
Qualifications/special skills
High School Certificate is required. A bachelor’s degree in urban planning or design, architecture, international development, political or social sciences with 1 year of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of High School Certificate with three years’ experience.
Languages
Fluency in both oral and written English and Arabic is required.

3 years of relevant professional experience at the national or international level in related areas such as urban development, planning and management, architecture, or social sciences.
