Deliverables 1. Deliver at least two draft design concepts and layout templates of the report for inside pages, plus at least three cover designs according to the Guidelines for UNCT Results Reports and UN Branding Guideline using the received materials; text and photos. 2. Develop creative graphics and charts that creatively convey key messages/data in the report, as well as write captions for the photos in the publication. 3. Prepare final print-ready copy based on the feedback received from UN agencies in English. 4. Followed by the Arabic version for design consistency upon receiving Arabic translation. 5. Provide electronic files for the web PDF file and native files of the publication in English, and Arabic languages

Duties and Responsibilities
Background The 2023 UN Iraq Annual Results Report is an important publication that underscores the UN Country Team’s (UNCT) accomplishments and achievements for its stakeholders. Published in both English and Arabic, this report underscores the results and impacts stemming from the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework. The report will underscore demonstrable outcomes and their impact on the lives of programme participants, underpinned by empirical evidence. It is crucial that the UNCT’s impact and results are corroborated by tangible progress, supplemented with illustrative examples. Special attention will be devoted to delineating the UNCT’s unique contributions and the intrinsic value added to the success of the initiatives, including collaborative efforts with partners. The documented results and impacts should accurately reflect the activities of programmes or projects, whether completed or in progress. The report primarily targets the country-level audience, being formally presented to the Government to uphold accountability, and disseminated amongst other stakeholders to ensure comprehensive visibility of the UN’s endeavors. Purpose The UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Iraq seeks a professional company or individual graphic designer tasked with the design and layout production of the Iraq UNCT Annual Results Report 2023. This consultant will collaborate closely with the RCO Iraq Communications Officer and Data Management and Results Reporting Officer, under the overarching supervision of the Head of RCO. The consultant’s mandate includes creating infographics that vividly depict the key outcomes and results of the UN Annual Results Report for 2023, with the report to be made available on the official websites of the UN in Iraq and the UN Development Coordination Office (DCO). Scope of work The following is the scope of work for designing and laying out the UN Iraq Annual Results Report 2023 for print and online distribution. For the two versions, English and Arabic, the scope of work involves key areas to ensure a comprehensive and cohesive approach to the production. Design and Conceptualization • Design Concepts and Layouts: Creating design concepts and layout templates, including developing layout of the publication (table of contents, proposed design, cover and back page, page of UN Logos, annex of acronyms). • Infographics and Visuals: Designing compelling infographics, social media cards, charts, graphs, tables, and developing ideas for graphics and charts to creatively convey key messages/data in the report. • Photo and Material Editing: Selecting and editing photos from a provided list, editing photo materials provided by UN agencies, and writing captions for photos in the publication. Sample Preparation and Revision • Initial Samples: Preparing two samples for the inside pages and at least three cover designs following the selection of a design concept. • Review and Feedback Integration: Preparing and submitting draft design for comments, review, and suggestions, and making changes and corrections as requested. Finalization and Distribution • Final Design Submission: Submitting the final design of the print-ready file of the report within set deadlines, including original Adobe InDesign files and high- and low-resolution PDF documents for future modifications if needed. • Language Variants: Preparing language copies in English and Arabic using the provided translations. • Electronic File Provision: Providing the electronic files of the report and native files of the publication in English and Arabic for further release on the UN Iraq website. Balancing and Ensuring Cohesiveness Narrative and Visual Balance: Ensuring a balance between narrative and visual elements throughout the report. The Report will be around 30 facing pages highlighting the activities and achievements of the UN in the country for 2023. The designer will be provided with the Guidance and template for UN Country Results Report. Regular update the UN RCO on the progress of implementation of the assignment. All organizational and informational support for the expert will be facilitated by the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office.
Qualifications/special skills
Advanced degree in graphic design, data analytics and visualizations or any other related field is required. A bachelor’s degree with an additional two years of qualifying experience and a complete technical certificate in graphic design may substitute for an advanced University Degree. A minimum of 5 years in page layout and graphic production from start to final print-ready copy with knowledge of printing processes (offset and digital) and color management is required. Strong theoretical and practical background in graphic design, including the use of design software such as Adobe Design Premium, In-Design, CorelDraw, Final Cut HD, web design tools such as Dreamweaver and Flash, etc. is required. Experience in developing templates of charts, graphs, infographics, visuals that creatively convey key messages/data in the report, as well as write captions for the photos in the report is required. Strong portfolio demonstrating experience with similar products and publications. At least 3 examples of previous works to be listed is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
