African Parks is a non-profit conservation organization that takes on the complete responsibility for the rehabilitation and long-term management of national parks in partnership with governments and local communities. We currently manage 19 national parks and protected areas in 12 countries covering over 20 million hectares in: Angola, Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, the Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Zambia, South Soudan and Zimbabwe.

Job Overview:

The Information Coordination Mentor is responsible for developing, in accordance with African Parks SOPs and in close collaboration with the AP Information Coordination Manager, individual but linked Information Coordination functions for Ennedi, Greater Zakouma (Zakouma + Siniaka NP) and Aouk, focusing on wildlife crime and other threats against the protected areas under AP management.

Key responsibilities:

  • In adherence to the AP Information Coordination SOPs, support the enhancement of each park’s information collection and analyst capabilities to address the park’s Priority Information Requirements (PIRs) and provide mentorship at both individual and team level for wildlife crime investigation.
  • Ensure that Information Analysis support and strategy is coherent with park-level law enforcement, community development and biodiversity strategies.
  • Manage the administration of the local database software (Geosuite) for users in Chad, including user accounts and maintenance of the network with the support of the AP Information Coordination Program Manager and the Regional Technology Development Manager.
  • In collaboration with Park-level Information Coordination teams, maintain all keystone documents relevant to the departments function.
  • Coordinate withother regional parks and agencies to ensure relevant reporting flowsboth ways.
  • Provide countrylevel strategic support toparks.
  • Supervise day-to-day work of park-level teams, including but not limited to work schedules, human resource requirements and personnel development, and other such activities as may be required or requested by Park Manager.
  • Ensure adherence to the highest ethical and legal standards, as well as to APN values, in all team activities and by all team personnel.

What does success look like in 2-years’ time?

  • Decision-makers in the four protected areas and at regional level are assisted by a formal and highly operational Information Coordination capability to make informed decisions.
  • Each team has not only acquired the ability to timely and accurately report but also to disrupt and deter wildlife crime and/or other threats before they materialize.
  • Each team has acquired the necessary skills and tradecraft to set up and run complex Information Coordination operations.
  • Effective information-sharing mechanisms between the parks, as well as with other AP entities, are well-established.
  • All teams in the parks adhere to and have implemented the relevant AP SOPs and training manuals.
  • Both at the individual level and as teams, all teams’ personnel have professionally advanced.

Competencies and Experiences :

  1. Proven experience in law enforcement, information collection and analysis or related fields.
  2. Demonstrated capacity to train and mentor local teams in remote African contexts.
  3. Highly organised individual with analytical abilities.
  4. Excellent computer literacy and willingness to learn new software.
  5. Previous experience working in Information Analysis required.
  6. French language fluency is critical, English and Arabic proficiency is preferred.
  7. Excellent written and communication skills and ability to work with diverse cultures.
  8. Willingness to live and work in remote environments.
