Org. Setting and Reporting
On 29 May 1948, the United Nations Security Council, in its resolution 50 (1948) called for a cessation of hostilities in Palestine and established the first peacekeeping mission headed by a UN Mediator with the assistance of a group of military observers to be known as the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO). UNTSO is mandated to observe and maintain the unconditional ceasefires and assist the parties to the 1949 Armistice Agreements in the supervision of the application and observance of the terms of those Agreements.

UNTSO’s mandate covers five countries, including Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, and the Syrian Arab Republic.

This position is located in the Service Desk Team of the Field Technology Services at UNTSO Headquarters, Jerusalem.

Responsibilities
Under the overall direction of the Chief Field Technology Services (FTS) and the supervision of the Information Systems Officer, the Information Systems Assistant will perform the following functions: • Acts as focal point for receipt and processing of user requests.

• Creates and assigns work orders in accordance with established procedures.

• Distributes work assignments and monitors progress. • Performs quality assurance procedures to ensure client satisfaction. • Detects problem patterns and recommend solutions. Desktop Administration and Configuration • Monitors all personal computers running the UN software delivery system to ensure that software distributions are being delivered correctly. • Provides guidance and training to new staff. • Performs other related duties as required.

Server Operations and Administration • Performs administration, operation, technical support and monitoring of printer server systems.

Liaises with other groups and the users within the department for maintaining the efficient and reliable operations of printer server systems. • Performs 24×7 operations of assigned systems. • Responds to requests from user offices and assists in deploying/configuring systems so as to confirm infrastructure standards. • Provides technical support on relevant hardware and software systems applications in assigned area.

• Installs application systems software and hardware according to specifications.

• Provides support in the planning, specification, design, development, implementation and maintenance of customized application software systems; works with senior IT staff on the definition and specification of requirements; builds, tests and modifies prototype application software based on detailed instructions; installs and maintains software systems. • Supports in the creation and maintenance of application software within Microsoft Office 365, and web-based architectures, etc.; assists in the preparation of technical and user documentation, as well as in the production of training materials.

• Provides support on software development matters, including security, data integrity and recovery; assists with needs assessment for new systems (including modifications to existing systems); performs ongoing reviews with users and developers and responds to requirements; requests, implements, provides operational support and maintains various applications.

• Maintains regular contact with users and technical staff in user offices and provides support as required. • Conducts research on new technologies as requested; keeps abreast of developments in the field; assists in testing and evaluating new products and technologies.

• Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.

• Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures. Procurement and Logistics: • Enters asset transactions into the automated inventory management system in accordance with established procedure. • Manages and stores equipment in accordance with work orders and/or equipment condition.

• Monitors inventory levels and Recommends acquisition of hardware, software, devices, tools, etc. Physical Requirements: • May be required to lift, move, mount, or store equipment weighing up to 50 lbs., or up to 80 pieces of equipment on a daily basis.

• May be required to work on shift assignments on weekdays to maintain the service coverage from 07:00 to 18:00. Occasionally, on average once a month, the incumbent may be required to work ad-hoc assignments during evenings or early mornings of working days as well as holidays and weekends.

• May be required to visit user’s offices to resolve problems on their desktop PCs/laptops. • May require the ability to cope with the working conditions of the Data Centre where the level of noise and electro-magnetic fields may be slightly higher than the normal office environment while the temperature may be lower.

• Performs other related duties as required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
A valid national driving license is required.

Certification in Microsoft Office 365 is required Certification in ITIL4 Foundation is desirable.

Certification in Microsoft Solutions Associate is desirable.

Work Experience
• A minimum of five (05) years of experience in information systems analysis and programming, systems administration and maintenance, software development, technical writing or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to three (3) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.

• A minimum of one year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

For the position(s) advertised, fluency in English is required; and Knowledge of Arabic and /or Hebrew is desirable.

Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
