The Information Technology CareerNavigator will engage primarily with students who are considering or pursuing the fields ofcybersecurity, information technology, computer information systems, webdevelopment and design, and networking at MassBay Community College, focusing on the support ofwomen and students of color. This individual will collaborate on the Tech Rise, Advancing Equity for Women and People of Colorin IT grant.This individual will support initiatives and work with faculty and staff toprovide workshops, coaching, and other assistances for students in relation tocareer exploration and development, internship and job matching, and industryoutreach and engagement. The Information Technology Career Navigator will also track participant activity and outcomes. In return, students will rely on the Information Technology Career Navigator for career support, guidance, and encouragement.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Collaborate with Career Services, STEM Career Development Counselor, Computer Science faculty, STEM Dean, and other administrative and academic offices on Tech Rise; Advancing Equity for Women and People of Color in IT grant and initiatives;
  • Build and nurture positive and meaningful relationships with students through regular interactions and effective communication;
  • Liaison with STEM Faculty and Staff to foster communication and collaboration;
  • Reach out to and provides IT students with one-on-one support in the areas of job search goal setting, career and pathway exploration, interview preparation, resume/cover letter creation, building professional portfolios, completing transfer applications and Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) essays and leveraging social media for career development;
  • Recruit students into Information Technology programs and markets program services to MassBay students;
    Help students to navigate the opportunities and resources available to STEM students;
  • Coordinate and promote informational forums, interviewing events, industry tours, and other CS/IT-related activities;
  • Make recommendations for coaching and other academic support services to promote retention and completion;
  • Provide STEM IT career-related data and information as needed when requested by faculty and administrative offices;
  • Track student progress, including follow-up and contributes to compliance reporting; and
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.

  • Engage in conversations with colleagues andstudents regarding best practices within the discipline or programmatic relatedto equity and inclusion.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Education,Counseling, Psychology, Business Administration, Mathematics, Computer Science,or other field related to area of assignment; with three (3) years experienceand/or training involving area of assignment, which may include collegeregistration, academic advisement, career development, career experience,training, curriculum development, audio/visual or graphic production, grantadministration, budget development, program/project management, event planning,administrative work in an academic environment, or personal computeroperations; or an equivalent combination of education, training, andexperience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;
  • Experience working in a diverse environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students;
  • Interest in and familiarity with workforce development needs in the regional community;
  • Masters’ degree;
  • Experience in career services, mentoring or advising;
  • Strong marketing, recruitment, critical thinking and customer service skills;
  • Experience working with a diverse population; and
  • Proficiency in oral/written communication expression;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $32 per hour

Hours: 10-15 hours a week

Position Type: MCCC-Professional Grade 4
