Inland Northwest Grassroots Organizer

The Inland Northwest Grassroots Organizer works in partnership with the SOS team to build awareness and visible support for the Columbia-Snake River Campaign priorities by engaging diverse and targeted constituencies across the Inland Northwest, including conservationists, commercial and recreational fishing people, Tribal members, businesses, community leaders, and salmon advocates. Responsibilities include grassroots organizing and advocacy, recruiting new partners and volunteer leaders in targeted geographies, and delivering presentations, coordinating events, and engaging volunteers in strategic grassroots actions and organizing activities.

Responsibilities: 

• Conduct targeted outreach to campaign stakeholders to build awareness and visible support among Inland Northwest constituencies calling for support of the Columbia/Snake River Campaign priorities.
• Identify, recruit, and support the engagement of new community partners, leaders, and volunteers/activists through the development of volunteer action teams in targeted geographies. (Spokane, Walla Walla, Tri-Cities, Wenatchee, Pullman, Lewiston)
• Develop outreach contact lists, tracking mechanisms, and outreach and volunteer priorities with the SOS team.
• Lead the development, scheduling, and implementation of community presentations, volunteer leader trainings, and workshops in the Inland Northwest.
• Facilitate and support volunteer implementation of strategic grassroots actions.
• Develop and disseminate outreach materials to connect with community members and regional partners on grassroot goals.
• Participate in SOS and campaign-related conference calls and meetings.
• Conduct other strategic activities as necessary to accomplish SOS and campaign goals.
• Assist with other associated tasks as needed and identified in partnership with the SOS team.

• Commitment to Save Our wild Salmon’s mission.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills: i.e., writing letters/emails, conducting presentations, creating outreach materials and training agendas, etc.
• Demonstrated capacity for working collaboratively with individuals and diverse teams.
• Grassroots advocacy, volunteer engagement, and strategic organizing/planning experience.
• Experience supporting or leading grassroots advocacy and organizing efforts. 
• Ability to travel within Washington State and access to reliable transportation.
• Ability to learn and proficiently use SOS’ CRM database and email engagement platform (Salsa), communications and project management software (Slack, Asana), and other technology tools as necessary.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 apps and software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint) and basic internet research.

Additional Information
 
Location: Spokane preferred; hybrid office/remote. Remote in Central/Eastern WA may be possible.
Classification: Full-time, Non-exempt
Compensation: $45,000-$55,000, DOE
Starting Benefits: Generous time off including 15 days vacation, 12 days sick leave, and 12 paid holidays per year plus a paid office closure between Dec 26-Dec 31; eligibility for a 4-week paid sabbatical after five years of service; employer paid medical and vision insurance.

Save Our wild Salmon (SOS) is a coalition of over 50 Northwest and national conservation organizations, recreational and commercial fishing associations, businesses, clean energy, orca and river advocates. Our mission is to protect and restore abundant, self-sustaining populations of salmon and steelhead to the Columbia-Snake River Basin for the benefit of freshwater and marine ecosystems, and Northwest communities and ways of life.

SOS also works closely with and supports the leadership of Northwest Tribes and Indigenous-led organizations in calling on policy makers to restore salmon and honor our nation’s long-standing tribal treaty responsibilities.
