Regen-AG Program
Round Glass Foundation is implementing an ambitious program on Regenerative Agriculture initiative Reen-AG in line with the vision for RoundGlass wellbeing initiative and would be responsible for identifying, implementing, and scaling programs that strategically, progressively, and systematically improve the agroecosystems (soil, water, and biodiversity) in targeted geographies initially focusing in Punjab. By driving adoption of participatory approach, you will work closely with local communities, especially farmers, to guide and enable them to gradually espouse highly contextualized yet leading edge regenerative agricultural practices that improve yields, build resilience to climate volatility, and provide avenues for holistic wellbeing and enhanced vitality for agrarian and farming communities.

Regen AG_ Innovation and Commercialization Deputy Lead

Essential Functions

The Regenerative Agriculture Commercialization and policy Deputy lead  (RegenAG commercialization  Deputy Lead) will be a key member of our RegenAG Program  initiated by Round Glass Foundation. The RegenAG commercialization Deputy Lead furthers the work of RGF and it’s partners by advancing RegenAG objectives with other key institutions/stakeholders. He works closely with other stakeholders including the agriculture department of Punjab Government to form or strengthen relationships with governments in Punjab, as well as with the relevant line departments government ministries. He supports engagement and funding opportunities with bilateral and multilateral institutions.  He will track, interpret, evaluate, formulate and recommend actions and responses to national and state government policies and in the international arena in areas relevant to Regenerative Agriculture and other strategies.

The role offers an opportunity for an experienced professional to be engaged to facilitate commercialization of Regenerative Agriculture in terms of linking farmers (through individual farmers/collectives like cooperatives/FPOs) and utilization of carbon markets in  the program intervention areas, green labelling, connecting to FMCGs, aimed at incentivizing the farmers to practice regenerative agriculture and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. He/She will do this by initiating policy dialogues with governments and other stakeholders to create the enabling conditions for carbon markets, improve investment opportunities, address barriers and improve capacity.

The I&C Deputy Lead will coordinate with a wide variety of stakeholders, prepare technical work products, and lead the development of the overall regenerative agriculture commercialization strategy in collaboration with other similarly focused consultants/staff members working for RGF . The consultant will be a key member of RegenAG team, contributing significantly to various projects technically and in managing stakeholder relationships. This position is based out of Mohali and is for an initial period of Three years. RegenAG commercialization Deputy Lead identifies conservation policy and funding opportunities, evaluates the potential for strategic partnerships, and develops and implements strategies to inform corporate practice, public policy, and public funding for conservation at a large scale, national and/or global level.  They will liaise with counterparts within the organization to provide and extract useful lessons and experience and to coordinate on joint policy/practice approaches. 

The Deputy Lead for I&C  will work in collaboration with the RegenAG Program Director to ensure the program initiatives are aligned with government priorities and stakeholder needs and are responsive to the ground conditions to achieve required scale and success.

Internally, the I&C Deputy Lead will also develop and implement a bilateral/multilateral partner leverage strategy to help raise funds that enables achievement of objectives of the RegenAG Program and potentially long-term regenerative agriculture management projects. He/She will provide specialized guidance in forming, maintaining, developing, and leveraging relationships and help to raise funds for this specific project and beyond, including by conceptualizing and leading proposals, negotiating with bilateral and multilateral agencies, and cultivating other donors, as needed. This will include developing strategies, proposals, and coordinating with other RGF Projects. 
This position will contribute significantly to the management of RegenAG including launching and coordinating working groups in coordination with Program Director to address key knowledge gaps for the most pressing challenges. They Policy and Partnerships Manager will also be responsible for building relationships with research institutions, governments, civil society, industry, and nongovernmental organizations aligned with the goals of Regenerative Agriculture. He/She will manage these relationships, help to shape strategies, and project, and ensure work is delivered on time and with the highest quality results.
Responsibilities & Scope

Roles and responsibilities:
  • Develops a commercialization of Regenerative Agriculture strategy for Punjab and leads engagement with key carbon market stakeholders, food grain procurement vendors, donors and consultants including government departments.
  • Leads the development of Natural Climate Solutions (NCS) investment vehicles in partnership with regional policy and finance capacity, including project development and transaction design, structuring, fundraising and execution.
  • Generates conservation outcomes through the conceptualization, development, and execution of NCIS projects in coordination with various teams.
  • Identify and collaborate with FPOs/Cooperatives and individual large and medium farmers for commercialization of regenerative agriculture.
  • In collaboration with program teams, support the team in
  • exploring feasibility of carbon markets in India to support a project / strategy, and if feasible in
  • identification of appropriate carbon methodology and standard selection for application.
  • assessment of carbon stock/sequestration potential and project feasibility.
  • assessment of potential carbon credit buyers/partners, green labelling.
  • preparing application for selling of carbon credits, green labelled products.
  • Develop and operationalize the strategy for establishment of Revolving fund attracting the funding from various donors. Collaborate with Central science team to generate evidence reflecting the relevance of nature-based solutions more broadly.
  • Develops external relationships with key partners and subject matter experts – including facilitating signing MOUs and partnership agreements.
  • Assist the relevant teams in coordinating with various carbon market players and hold concurrent discussions with potential market participants

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in development management and at least 6-8  years’ relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in international institutions or climate change/ energy/ utility or corporate/project finance group of a large organization of similar expertise.
  • Experience managing complex or multiple projects, including managing finances and coordinating the work of other professionals and partners.
  • Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance.
  • Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups and/or government agencies.
  • Experience negotiating.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant environmental or social science discipline with backgrounds in public finance, investment banking, carbon financing or energy efficiency engineering.
  • OR
  • M Phil or PhD level in a relevant environmental or social science discipline, resource management, or related studies.
  • 8-10 years of experience with specialization in carbon financing/carbon project development role. Experience of working in carbon financing for land-use, land-use change and forestry projects will be an advantage.
  • Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience will be an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated scientific understanding of carbon science and a deep knowledge of carbon standards.
  • Self-starter with ability to generate work plans with limited support in line with the overall outcomes, goals, strategies, and plans.
  • Experience developing business plans or major strategy assessments, particularly with conservation forms of valuation, deal structuring, negotiations support, financial modelling and analysis, business planning.
  • Fluency in languages other than English (e.g., Hindi or any other languages).
  • Knowledge of politics and society with respect to environmental and international affairs.
  • Willingness to learn and develop expertise in new conservation strategies, economic drivers,
  • management tools, and global affairs.
  • Strong team player who can build relationships and work collaboratively across the organization,
  • including with senior management.
  • Deep knowledge of the Indian policy environment, key stakeholder groups and of Indian carbon projects and enterprises.
  • Experience leading and managing complex projects and strategic initiatives in an unstructured environment.
  • Project management experience and experience meeting deadlines.
  • Past track record in project and product development, including the ability to analyze and structure complex products, to come up with creative solutions and to translate it into on-the ground reality.
  • A team player with good marketing, communication, and interpersonal skills as well as proven business judgement and high ethical and professional standards.
  • Exceptionally good written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Ability to operate sensitively in multicultural environments and build effective working relations with clients and colleagues.
